Introduction 1980 RX7

Hi everyone, hope y’all are doing well, just made my account a few hours ago so figured I’d do an introduction. I was gifted my uncle’s old RX7! It is a 1980 Model year finished in Silver (paint code K3) with a burgundy interior. It has the 5 speed manual and the 12a engine. It was parked in a garage back in 87’ and just left there until about a week ago when I got it ant had it flatbeded to my place. The electrical works still (kinda) and I was told the clutch is bad but the replacement came in for that today. In a few weeks I’ll finally be able to see if it starts or not. 😄

How it looks today.

How we found the car.

Congratulations on your new RX-7 and welcome to the forum! Do you know any of the car's history other than it was parked so long ago? How many miles are on the car?

Definitely plan to drop the fuel tank and clean it, the lines, replace the fuel filter, rebuild the carburetor, replace all fluids, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser, etc before start up. You've got an awesome Sunbeam Silver Metallic GS! Will definitely look forward to seeing a build thread on the car in the 1st Gen section!

I would think twice about trying to start it using the fuel in the tank. You don't want to push old gunky fuel up to and thru the carb. Get a can and gravity feed it direct to the carb or drop a line from the fuel pump under the car into a can of fresh fuel. As Dave says, you'll probably end up cleaning out all the old crusty deposits and rebuilding the carb. Sounds like you need a new clutch master and slave cylinders.

Do you know why it was taken off the road? Does the engine turn over by hand? Thats the first thing to check. You might need to get some lube down in the engine to get it broke free and moving.
