Hello, I purchased a 1993 R1 over 4 years ago that was wrecked and am slowly starting to get it road worthy. It was partially repaired but had a number of problems that I discovered. The car was a salvage title and took a large hit to the front drivers side suspension, shock tower and below the a pillar. The tower was re welded and the firewall sub structure had a new piece grafted in. The Underhood dimensions seem square but the car still has a twist to it. The drivers side frame rail has a higher elevation than the passenger side. It was pulled before.
I completely disassembled the car and found that the lower control arm and front sub frame were bent. I have replaced those. In addition, the drivers side sub frame mounting area had the internal nut broken so I drilled holes and filled in with weld to secure the mounting area.
What is left is another trip to frame shop for another pull, and even more importantly, how to fix the upper control arm mount. The car was put back on the road with bent components so the upper control arm mounts were slotted horizontally and vertically to allow for adjustment. Then washers were welded over slots to tighten up pivot point for inner mounting bolts.
Has as anyone ever fixed something like this? It looks like there is one large panel that is epoxied into the unibody that has the amounts integrated into it. Can you buy this piece/panel anywhere? Or is it possible to weld plate to the mounts with new holes for the correct geometry? I am afraid to put heat there which could compromise the expoxy that secures the entire suspension plate.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
