Howdy from Central Texas!

Hello to all. New member here. I've owned a couple of Mazda's but never a rotary. Hoping to change that soon, love the First Gen.

On here to study, learn and hopefully provide some good feedback.

Welcome to the forum!! I love the 1st Gen as well! They are basic cars that are simple to diagnose and easy to service and repair. Best of luck in your search for the perfect RX-7!!

Going to look at a one owner 1985 12A GS with 46K miles this weekend. Southern car. The low miles are nice but it has only had a 1000 miles added in last 10 years... These cars need to be driven and this one has not. Owner is an older gentleman.

Will need new tires, hoses & belts, plugs, wires & fluids at a minimum. Carb was recently rebuilt. Wish me luck!

Definitely sounds like a great car!! There will be a few items that will likely need addressed but overall, it will no doubt be a solid example! Here's hoping it's as great of a car as it sounds like it is!

I ended up buying the '85 SE. 46K miles. Very good condition. All original. One thing I need to work on is figuring out why in 3/4/5 it doesn't want to rev beyond 4500. Carb secondaries are opening up. It has the original plug wires from 1985, so that might be the culprit. I ordered new NGK wires & plugs this evening. Could also be fuel pump or fuel filter...

Did you buy the GS or did you buy a GSL-SE? You mentioned SE and that would have the fuel injected 13B. The GS would have a carburetor however. If it is the GS and it's been sitting, it could be fuel delivery related as in clogged filter or pick-up? Weak pump or clogged secondary jets in the carburetor as well.

It could also be that the main catalytic converter is clogged. This would prevent the engine from revving quickly and would choke it out pretty bad. You'll also want to do a complete tune up with new NGK BR8EQ-14 spark plugs, wires(which you have on order) cap and rotor. I akaays save the original Yakazi wires with the build date on them. No idea why I collect them but I do. You'll want to check all of the vacuum lines and do a complete fluid exchange etc. But I'll save more detail for the tech section. Since this is an intros section, I dont want to get further in detail as I'm already headed off the intros path. Should give you a good start.

Also, I would love to see pictures of the car!! It sounds incredible!

Doh, it's the GS. 12A. Carb was recently rebuilt. I get the feeling it's the cat. Will post pics in the coming days.
