AZ Hi I'm new here, but not to 7's

Hey everybody my name is Lee, I'm on my 5th rx7 and the 3rd 83 in my life. Currently live in Tucson AZ and about to do my first scca race in the 83. Been on this forum a few times and finally joined. Look forward to hopefully contributing on here.

Lee, once you get to racing, you're going to discover all the wonderful fun of the 1stgen RX-7 and also all the wonderful things that need to be done to make it competitive in today's SCCA environment unless they still have a spec series for the cars. You should end up making a lot of useful contributions here in either case.

Thanks for stepping out of the shadows and registering finally! The more 1stgen folk who join, the better I always say. I've got an '83 FB myself.

Thanks for the welcome Mario,
My racing background is in Skip Barber formula cars, then a few seasons of time attack racing at Arroyo Seco in New Mexico. I am really setting up the 83 for time attack but have never raced thru the cones so I thought getting beat by all the miatas at the local scca events would help shake the car down haha.

Hmmm... a Time Attack FB, eh? Got any pre-production or proposal drawings yet of what the car will look like? Sounds like a lot of fun, actually.

The way the rules work for the time attack series at Arroyo Seco is horsepower to weight ratio. So the FB with a little weight reduction can make about 155 to 160 at the wheels and stay in the lowest HP class. I just installed Diamond Racing wheels and Kuhmo KU36's next will be a splitter and adjustable rear wing. After that just motor work and keep taking things off till it hits the limit of the rules haha. I will have to figure out how to post pics as it goes along, right now it looks pretty silly with wheels sticking almost 4 inches out of the fenders till i can build some flares.

Actually, the stars were done right but I'd have them do a swoopy curve extension to follow along the door staying to the top. Sometimes, assymetrical paint jobs are freakin' cool and this one has got "it."

Once the flares are done, the car will be a standout....now about that 160 to the wheels with a 12A...

Lee, if you "quote" your post, you'll see how I imbedded your pic into the post.

Hey, did the scca race sunday and my first time thru the cones was really fun and challenging. Never been challenged so much in a race car haha. Thanks for the comments on the car, the stars were last minute at 3 in the morning after bodywork all night but they came out ok in person. And i know 160 to the wheels from a 12a is the stuff of dreams but i might have a way to force more air and fuel into the motor but it's a secret.....

No one took pics at this months event and they normally do. I shot some GoPro video and if I can figure out how to cut it down and post it up i certainly will. Thanks for the comments all !
