I currently have an 85 GS model, but I've owned three other first gen models over the past 20 years. they have all been the small rotory with carb version. Just happened to be what I found to buy at the time, even though, I was actively searching for the SE models. This car had been sitting up for about 13 years with 80K miles and all original with just a worn out clutch. Of course I had to clean/restore fuel tank, lines, and carb....and carefully lubricate the seals, but it started up and ran like a top. Right now I'm finishing up some replacing of parts due to age, but eventually plan on selling it only in order to help purchase a SE model or maybe 2nd gen model. Welcome! It sounds like you've found a gem of a car there, and are doing the right stuff. My story is kinda like yours, I got my 4th 2.5 years ago after being without since '96. It was sitting in a garage for 5 years before I rescued it.
