Red face Hey folks!!

Total newbie here! From the midwest but living in SF bay now. I've been researching like crazy and before I knew it, I think I've got the rotor fever. Growing up, I was never into cars or anything mechanical, but my car-crazy colleague has really been rubbing off on me. This is actually the first car that I've bought myself, too.

Some might argue that a rotary is a bad car to learn with, but I think it's the opposite: based on my research, it will teach you how to properly care for a car and the systems within. I'm also not worried about it breaking down, as it won't be my daily driver.

I can't speak to if it's a good car to learn how to really drive, though. It was a sports car in the 80's, I'm sure not a lot has fundamentally changed in physics (hint: it hasn't), but materials science has certainly progressed. Originally I was intending on getting a Miata, but I accidentally stumbled upon a great deal on an FC3C at the upper end of the budget I had set, and if everything goes according to plan; I should be the proud owner of it in just a few days now!

I've (obsessively) been doing a lot of reading, watching YouTube videos, and researching the OEM/aftermarket part availability and costs. These are 30 year old cars after all. I think I'll mostly keep mine stock with a few upgrades, like the old rubber bushings, and just focus on good maintenance habits. Once I have more free income (living in the bay is extremely expensive) I'd like to get an FD and learn to push the limits a bit more, and start modding. I recently came across this excellent gem of a YouTube series I highly recommend for anyone new to cars wanting to learn the fundamental in a very easy to follow, but thorough and detailed way. Better than picking out bits and pieces from reading between the lines on forums posts that may or may not be accurate, hey!

My colleague is trying to convince me not to get an RX-7, but I'm not too good at listening. I'll report back with pictures of my prize, prepare to be stunned!!

P.S. One question about the forum rules for the more established members here: that rule about 3 posts per day, is that limited to this subforum or the entire forum? Nevermind.
