Hello from VA! New rx7 owner
Hello all! My name is Andy!
I just recently bought my first rx7 as a fixer-upper. Its a 1988 GTU N/A. Rx7club has been my #1 source for information as I was fixing this car. You must read all the things I had to do to this car... its a wild story!
Here it is outside of my messy carport:
When I bought her, she had a flat tire and was not running due to pulsation dampener failure... engine fire. it destroyed ALL the OMP lines, fuel lines, and the primary injectors.
after repair:
after fixing the OMP lines, it wouldnt start. no fuel pump! So I removed the fuel pump only to find 6 inches of jello in the tank...
pulled the tank and found a used pump and sender on ebay for 45 bucks. The tank was a nightmare to clean. First, I cleaned it with heavy degreasers, followed by a serious electrolysis treatment!
After fixing the tank, and putting the new pump in, I finally got it running. Of course, it did require a new fuel filter and spark plugs... oh and a little ether did the trick!
The information on Rx7club has been extremely helpful. Im glad to have found this place, otherwise I would have never tackled this job. Soon I plan on rebuilding the motor, the car has a little over 160k. It runs strong but is a little shy on compression, I feel.
