Hello there
Hello all,
My name is Matthew, I am new to this forum and rotaries. I recently purchased a 5 speed 85 GS. The body is straight with no rust, and the interior is pretty clean. The suspension needs work , but I am excited to really learn how to drive a manual and to make this car a fun weekend car. I bought this car as a project to work on and so I could finally have a manual car. I daily a 2002 Ford Ranger which is an auto, but I've been wanting a manual for a few years now. A buddy let me drive his 85 RX-7 which got me hooked. I look forward to ripping up the back roads once I get my car going!

Thanks! I'll try to get some pictures of the car up tomorrow, I don't know much about the history of the car. I believe that it originally came from South Carolina, and I think I am either the 3rd or 4th owner. The car was originally tender blue, but was repainted ( rather poorly) green I think in the 90s. The car sat for some amount of time before I purchased it, but the individual I got the car running somewhat decently. So far I've been rebuilding the carburetor and suspension. It has been interesting and fun so far, and I am really looking forward to driving the finished product.

I haven't had a chance to get many pictures of the car during the day since it is dark once I get out of work, but I have already put a set of factory alloy wheels that came with the car. I plan on getting it painted sometime in the future, but at the moment it is at the bottom of my to do list.

Looks like a really nice car with a lot of potential!! Appears to be an S model due to the lack of power mirrors. And the S trim level steel wheels are a give away as well. Doesn't matter though as the S is the lightest of all trim levels and a very fun car overall!!

She may not be a looker, but the body is straight and rust free.I wondered if it might be a S, I did notice it doesn't have a release button for the hatch (that is a S thing right?). I only thought it was a GS from some random free vin decoder, but the S will work better for what I want it for anyway. Thanks for pointing that out for me! I already have parts coming to freshen up the suspension, and I can't wait until this car is ready to go!

The S model lacked a remote release for the hatch release, no power mirrors, no light in the hatch, no sunshade in the windshield, no dead pedal, no illumination ignition switch, no map light, and the automatic transmission was also not available on the S.
I've had quite a few S models over the years and all.of the lighting options can be added as the wiring and connectors are there. It's all just plug and play. Even the connectors for the power mirrors are there. The dead pedal bolts right in and the wiring for the power hatch release is there as well. These cars are pretty amazing.
