CA Hello from SoCal

Hi.I am Nelson!
New as a member, but rotary enthusiast for years. I currently have an FC turbo swap project car that I am about to tear into, its been sitting on the sidelines the last couple years as my Z32 has been getting all the attention. I used to attend the IDRC drag events at LACR Palmdale (before the strip was closed down). Used to watch Abel Ibarra and Ray Locheed/SR Motorsports in the Outlaw class, great times. Miss those events, always had a great rotary turn out. Not many places left in Socal to race legally, so where are the rotary gatherings these days?

I'm also a fan of Nissan Z32s, I have owned two. Currently have a built twin turbo that is pushing 600hp on pump 91 octane (much more on race gas).

Fan of street, drag, track, drift and custom builds, especially sleepers.

If I don't get around to rebuilding my turbo II motor for my FC, I have a spare VG30DETT laying around somewhere...

Thanks for all the info and I hope to gain additional knowledge and feedback on my FC project.

CA Welcome Nelson

Yep, those were the days, I remember watching Adam Surawatri and Abel at the Pomona Raceway back in the mid to late 90's. I was a Honda enthusiast back then .

Good to hear that you are going to start your TII swap , I just finished (never ending) my swap this January. I am still performing work though, trying to tie up the loose ends of the swap.

Every third Saturday of every month La Puente Hills Mazda hosts a Mazda meet, I have not been to an event yet, I hear they are cool. Other then that you can hit up GMR during the wee hours, plenty of cool cars and canyon action .

Thanks for the feedback guys. Late 90's I was really into the import drag scene, always been a nissan Z and Skyline GTR fan, and always a rotary fan. Also used to watch the Japanese OPTION videos. Favorite car ever on there was an AE86 corolla with a ~600hp 20b in it! Ultimate sleeper. Fun stuff.

I am also a member on twinturbo.net, the best Z32 forum on the net. I have a few pics of my Z32 on there. I'm running a pair of Garrett GT30s on my Z with a fully built motor, done by my cousin and myself.

My cuz and I have (for fun) dropped my spare VG into the FC just to mock it up for fun. Surprisingly, It fits well. Low and close to the firewall. I know lots of people do the LS1 swap on the second gens, but the VG30DETT swap may be pretty fun. Stock VG with stock turbos can easily push over 400hp and tq.

But we'll see. I've never rebuilt a rotary and I'd like to take a swing at it if I can make the time. The turbo II motor I have is jdm and supposedly ran when it was purchased (I purchased the car from a friend who moved out of state, he was in the process of converting the NA car to turbo motor and never finished). The motor has sat so long I'm sure the apex seals are shot. Turbo needs rebuilding or replacing. I just need to find a good starting point.

I remember Saruwatari too. He started in a Z32 I think, and later raced a 3rd gen for a while before they built that beast outlaw NSX. I always loved the SR Motorsports third gen outlaw, awesome car to watch, that thing sounded insane!
