Hello! I am Joseph from the Sunshine State!!!

I am a BMW fanatic at heart, but am contemplating entering the rotary world. I am 46, retired, and work on cars pro bono! Love helping people out technically and advise wise. What ever my two cents are worth to anyone? Glad to be here! As it seems the best RX forum to belong too! Look forward to communicating with others, gaining and the sharing of knowledge.

1st possible venture into the rotary world!

Hey all I am Joseph! How's everyone?
I am new to the rotary scene. A BMW fanatic at heart! I have recently stumbled upon the opportunity to buy a, what I may have, is an incredible, authentic "Barn Find"! I have been googling and searching for more specific information pertaining to this particular Mazda. Here is all I am able collect from the family, and various old links to this Mazda. It is an authentic, 1988 Mazda RX 7, 10th Anniversary Edition, series II. Build date 03/88. Can someone comment on this possibility. I know they only built 1500. So there is definitely less than that remaining, due to accidents, and what not. Does anyone know of how many actually are left in existence? I really do not want to miss out a possibly one in a lifetime purchase. My intent if purchased is a full restoration. I do BMW's all the time, and strive to stay true to the original product, form, function, and designed aspects of cars I restore. Not a restomod guy! Last registration expired in 2005. Parked in barn since. Owner passed a few years ago. Last time started and ran was 3 years ago. Family is cleaning out barn, for property sale, and I happen to know the granddaughter. The only things that are missing is the rear wiper arm, and the cowling between the hood and windshield. She has only been opened twice since, 1 for the granddaughter to send me a couple of pics, and 2nd was me today opening the doors, and the first time the hood had been raised since being parked. She just needs restoration. She is unmolested, has original keys, owners manual, even the original little key tags that come with the keys when bought new from dealer. The plastic ones with s/n and such. I believe she is pretty rare since there were only 1500 produced. And this one got lost in the middle of nowhere? Restoration cost is no issue, but I do know the reputations associated with rotory's. Deal or Not. She needs ground up resto. Body is straight as an arrow. Lights complete and unbroken. Even the electric antenna is perfectly straight! No broken glass, not missing any trim or moldings, 10th anniversary badge on fenders are pristine. It is just an incredible find I belive! Welcome any info or opinions!

Hi Joseph,

Welcome to the board.

I moved your post from the Technical section to here because while it is a pretty cool story, your inquiries are not technical. It is still pretty much inline with an introduction.

Sounds like a diamond in the rough and I wish you luck with it all.

Seems like you found your self a lost treasure. I own a 91 FC and a 94 FD, always wanted a 10th anniversary before I got the FD. Hard to come by an unmolested and clean 7 as you described it.

Barn Find!

Got your message. Would you be interested in owning one now? She must have a total restoration? Send me an email, josephtomlinjr@me.com, and I'll send back some very great pictures, to give you an, idea. I'm not sure to buy it for its rarity, and restore, or if it realistic to potentially, drop 15k, easy into this thing.

Not at this moment, thank you for the offer. Right now my FC has no motor, my FD is in surgery center and my Evo's tranny is about to go. Got too many toys and I think if I get one more wife might hang me from you know where lol. Good luck and let me know if you decide to get it!
