CA Hello from Fairfield, CA

Hello,

I picked up a 1986 RX7 in pretty good shape, so now I'm glad to part of this community.

With that said, does anyone have any good mechanic recommendations? The car seems to be running fine, except for some some light smoke under the engine bay. I don't see a visible oil or coolant leak, so I'll check the hoses.

Anyway's, looking forward to meeting some of you.

Welcome! Would love to see pictures of the car!!! Do you know any of the car's history?

As for the smoke, you'll have to check for any oil seepage, especially on the front cover near the exhaust or from the oil metering pump. Coolant can burn off as well, especially when the intake manifold o-rings leak and coolant seeps onto the exhaust manifold.

I'm having a local trusted mechanic do a quick look over to see if there are any obvious issues.

Regarding the vehicles history, I'm now the third owner. The original owner maintained the vehicle regularly and had it till about two years. He didn't drive it much especially toward the last years as he had a DUI (he left the court records in the car) and he eventually passed away.

The estate salesman bought the car from the family for his son, who never got his license. So it sat in his driveway for about two years. Still in decent shape (some paint bubbles, tiny bit of rust, but nothing major). The interior has cracked in some places due to the age of the plastic and sun damage. Still everything is in decent shape.

I'll get photos up when I can.

Sounds like an amazing car!! Would make a great car to get back out on the road and enjoy!

The smoke, if its not consistent, may just be some old oil burning off of the engine.. You may want to just take it for a drive and see if the smoke under the hood lessens. I've had cars that will smoke lightly when first started after sitting all winter and then after a couple heat cycles, the smoke is gone.

Will look forward to seeing the pictures of the car!

You might want to check Rick's Performance in Pleasanton. Not far from you. He does a lot of Rotary work. Knowledgeable.
Mike.
