My name is Eric, from south east Wisconsin.

I have to say this is one of the most organized forums I have been on and I'm loving it.

So I don't have a Mazda rotary but I am very interested in these motors and what they can do for their size and weight. I'm looking to learn as much as I can about them. As of right now I'm most interested in the 13B TT out of the third gen RX7.

Looking forward to read up on the engine and bouncing questions off all of the knowledgeable people here.

 

I suppose that I should elaborate on my goals here in order to generate discussion in my welcome thread.

My desire to understand these engines is because I'm debating doing a transplant in my project, a 2001 Ford ZX2. Now I know that I'm going to have questions of why spend the money, just get a RX7, or wouldn't it be easier to do a FWD build with the Zetec that is in the car now. My answer to these and other such questions is yes, my way of thinking is nuts and will be a complete pain to complete and more than likely is not worth the money for any other reason than because I want too.

With all that said, I do have reasons for my madness. 1.) I can get all the parts needed to go RWD with the exception of a better rear sub-frame, which I can design and build or get built easy enough. Engineer by profession. 2.) The rotary is much more compact than the 4cyl that is in the car so turning it will be easier and require less moving of other under hood components. 3.) There are already transmissions that will bolt to the rotary, I can not say the same for the Zetec. It is $700 just to get the bell housing to mate the engine to a T5 out of a 4cly mustang. 4.) I'm not looking for crazy power, say 250whp. With a third gen RX7 13B TT I'm almost there.

Now with this all said I know me and I change my mind like most do their clothes, so whether or not this project ever gets anywhere we will see. Hope this better explains my intents here and generates great conversation.
