PA Hello from central PA

In 1986 I bought my first and only RX-7. A red GX model. The years have passed and both the car and I have more miles on us.

Frankly, I'm here to try to sell my car and my understanding is that I require 5 posts before I am allowed to post in the classifieds. So this is my first post and I'll find somewhere to post four more, hopefully without cluttering the forums.

Chris

Welcome. Tell us a story about the car, or share some pictures. Long term ownership is pretty rare now.

LOL. That's because long term ownership is predicated on long lasting owners!

I bought the car in 1986 after working in my first full time job and getting married. My job paid well by the standards of the day and it was my first "new" car. At the time I was living in Canada so the car has 137,000 km which is about 85k miles. It was a driver car - I drove it to work, I drove it to the store, I worried about the effect of Toronto's salt soaked roads in winter and just enjoyed it overall. We didn't have a lot of money when we were first married, but we did need two cars - so I bought my wife a Hyundai Pony I'm amazed she didn't divorce me on the spot. On weekends we would go for drives on back roads in the country-side. To this day I remember how much fun it was to drive, especially on winding roads where you could accelerate out of turns on to a straight stretch of road. Where I was driving there weren't any police to worry about, so you could just do your thing. Over the years I've own BMWs and the like, but without exception I still find the light weight Rx-7 the most fun to drive. I'm going to miss it.

Yikes - I didn't expect the picture to be so darn big.

Can I ask why you want to sell it now, after all this time? Sure you wouldn't rather spruce her up some and make new memories? Old cars we have history with are like time machines. My 79 was my 1st new car purchase as well. This is year 45 for me and still no thoughts of parting ways with her.

Why sell?

The decision to sell has not been an easy one. The only reason I'm going to sell it is because I do not have the space, equipment or knowledge to do the work myself. But I'm sorely tempted.

I guess I should have added that when I took the car out of storage the first thing I did was contact my local mechanic to look at it. He confirmed that the engine turns and that the body is in good shape except for the hood. The show stopper for me is the underside is heavily rusted, i.e. you can see the underside of the carpet in places. The mechanic basically guessed that it would be cost prohibitive to repair unless I was able to fix the underside myself - and that is a skill I do not have. Very unfortunate.
