AB Hello, another FD owner!

Hello everyone! I've been a long-time lurker and finally got around to making an account. I have a 1996 FD; I've owned my FD since 2020 and absolutely love it. I'm the first Canadian / North American owner. The motor was rebuilt last winter 24 and broken in summer 25. Short list of mods: street port, balanced rotating assembly, petite cool charge iii, parallel turbos, power FC. Car dyno'd at 311 to the wheels on factory injectors with an upgraded fuel pump. The goal is to make it 80% a track car and autocross car and 20% a street car. I'm located in the Calgary, Alberta area, if anyone ever wants to grab a coffee!

Make a plan to make a blast through the Rockies for our Sevens Day on July 12th.

Better yet come out for the week and join our annual cruise on July 7th.

There will be lots of other meets in town at that time of year.

Also: You are aware of the coil position change for FD starting with Version 4 cars (like yours)?

It is important to know.

Calgary? Good thing is you have Adam, at RX7 Specialties, to keep you running up there. Welcome.

Thank you! Going to try and get as much seat time as possible this summer. I'm running Ohlins road and track with the default Ohlins springs. I might upgrade to Swift Springs in the future, but I'm going to run a few events first, so I get a better idea of what I want to do.

EDIT: Should also add I'm switching to 17x10 wheels for the season. I'm using the OEM sway bar and replaced all the lower pillow ***** in the rear. Also using megan rear toe links. OEM trailing arms for now since they were out of stock when I got parts last.

Awesome dude, thank you, I'd love to road trip to BC and try to make some events. I wanted to try and hit Mission Raceway this summer, too.

Also: I am not familiar aha. I only know my own car, so I am not super aware of the smaller differences between series. What is the coil position change?

Yep! Adam and Mike rebuilt my motor in winter 2024. Guys are absolute legends, I've ended up buying lots of used and new parts from them at good prices over the years. I honestly don't think I could speak highly enough about them. Are you in the Calgary area also? It literally says you are in Indiana, my bad haha, I'm always surprised how well known Adam is.

If you still have stock coils, the harness should be hooked up to the coils like this.

This is assuming you have the stock coil set for Version 4 cars (or newerr).

You need to also make sure the leads go to the correct plugs from the correct posts.

Even if your coil harness and leads were set up correctly on rebuild, the position could be changed by anyone working on the car subsequently.

Partly because the USDM FSM would show the earleir version of the set-up.

So you always have to watch out for this.

Attaching things wrong could result in the plugs firing at the wrong time and cause considerable damage to the motor.

Note that for the newer cars there was a simplified harness. You need to use that one. They are available on Nengun for about C$100.

Version 4~6 coil set up. (Series 7~8).

They did the machine work to my REW, and 20B. Last summer I visited the shop and BS'd with them a little. Stereotypical friendly Canadians, great folks.
