CA Hello all! Just Bought My first - 88 Vert FC

My name is Tyler. I live out here in gold country, in Sonora, CA. Crappy roads out here, but the FC chews up all the nasty turns the geography can throw at me.

Got the car for $1000, has a bad vert top and sat for a year, but the engine is strong. 130k on engine/chassis, swapped tranny for one with 60k on it.

So I've pretty much wanted to buy this car from my friend for almost four years now. It's an amazing machine that he let go to hell. It was worth about $6500 when he bought it, now I couldn't sell it for what I paid. But once I'm done restoring it, look out! :-)

PS. Anyone that knows about how the internal mechanisms work in a convertible top, in my area? I would pay you to help me fix mine! Thanks!

Had a black 90 convertable. Loved that car, might want to watch for the seals on the top over the windows going bad and causing leaks and rust in the floor pan.

It's funny that you mention those seals. The passenger side one is totally screwed, and needs replacing. Same question as ROOter above: where can I get a spare?

I'll have pics up within a few days. 0_o

My driver side seal leaks so guess I need a new seal. Got in my car after it rained a few weeks ago and my floor was soaked. Need to look under the carpet to see if there's any rust. Hope not......

Even my TX 90 FC had some rust in the back behind the driver seat. Thankfully it was just a little surface rust and was easily sanded off. If I remember right, and please correct me if I’m wrong, but there is a drain plug somewhere back there that can be punched out to help the water drain.

Also about getting the seal parts, I searched Google for "rx7 convertible window seal" and found some places. But I think that you would be better served by going to the Tech sections and looking through that.

Hi Emmanuel Joson here from Southern California, first car was a 1982 RX7 GXL. It was fun driving it aggresively and leisurely on the streets of NYC until I got hit by an old lady in Staten Island and wrecked my car. Moved to Cali in 2000. Saw my sister-in-laws 1986 Rx7 NA just collecting dust in the garage. Started tinkering and made it run.
