AB Hello from Alberta!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to say a quick hello! I've been lurking the forums for a while and finally got around to joining and I'm looking forward to talking with everyone here.

A few quick facts about me:
-Despite everyone warning me not too, I almost bought a black auto FC as my first car (and wasn't until the second test drive, when it stalled on me twice that I had to reconsider; it broke my heart )
-I currently drive an na miata and pretend it's an FD
-I'll be looking to pick up an FD project next year, so I've got lots to learn!

Cheers!

Welcome! Another rotary enthusiast in AB is very welcome!

Lots of good cars and lots of awful cars out here. Do your research and stay away from autos, ruins all the fun!!!

Oh and enjoy the lack of emissions and inspections out here...YAY!!!!

Also from Alberta here - agreed on the awful cars... there is lots of them. This site will be a much better resource than a lot of the owners you'll meet in Alberta.

For the OP:
Alberta RX-7 Owners with good builds:
@Feed.afflux.v5 on IG (guy im quoting - but his Facebook page is better)

Mike @ Alpine Autowerks
@alpineautowerks on IG

Ryan @ Vex Performance
@rwdragoon or @vexperformance
-Ryan doesnt post much but his 20B and 2 rotor builts are unreal in quality and detail

Mine is @403rx7 on IG for the car build... I may start a built thread here eventually as well.

Hi guys,

Same story, long time lurker, finally made an account. Was going to make a hello post but I might as well just piggy back off this one haha. I'm also from AB, I have an 88 GXL with an S4 TII swap that I bought a few years back. Rebuilt the engine last winter, and this winter I am going to be putting her under the knife for a MicroSquirt installation. I may entertain creating some youtube videos or at least a forum thread to document the process as there is almost no documentation for this combination.

I will say: DO go through the trouble of a compression test when you buy. Do your research on how to do this (a standard compression tester isn't the greatest on a rotary, but it can still give you some indication of health). Hard hot-starting is a red flag. Here's hoping you find the car of your dreams soon, I know I have! Catch ya later.

Well welcome to you too .... don't forget to post in the Canadian Forum (Western Side) once you're all clear of the 10 post limit. Not a lot of people are getting together in Alberta for Rotary or RX meets... would be good to rekindle the scene a little.

Will do, as rare as these cars seem to be around here, I have 3 close friends in the area who also drive rotaries. There seems to be a fairly good rotary racing scene in Edmonton too.

Agreed!

The issue is convincing people to travel to meet...for instance i am happy to drive a couple of hours towards Calgary for a meet, but so few people in the city are willing to drive out to split the distance.....

Yeah, I'm in rural AB a few hrs from Edmonton. That's nothing, but the drive to Cgy is like 5 hrs and a boring one at that. I need to get my training done for track junkies next year, would be nice to hit the road course a few times a year.

ive been meaning to get me and the girlfriend some training for a while... always seems like a run-around just to drive a car. We'll see I agree it would be great to hit the course occasionally

Whoa, I had my notifications off and didn't notice all of these replies! Thanks for the welcome everyone and I'm glad there are still some rotary fans in Alberta!

I didn't know Vex worked on rotaries too! Not many places do. I'll definitely be checking that out! I find myself lurking rx7 specialties sometimes when I pass by to see what they've got in the shop
I've also heard some good things about 4cruzn in Edmonton, but I'm not so sure they're still open, have any of you guys heard?

I really should learn how to use a standard compression tester to test a rotary, another thing on my "to-learn" list!

A rotary meet would be awesome, I'm in Calgary too there aren't many rx7s still around

Yup Vex is doing my build (which I mentioned is all documented on @403rx7) they do unreal work, highly recommend.

4Kruzn is still going, hes about halfway between edmonton and red deer and still going strong by the looks of it.

That's really awesome to know, two more potential places for me to go when I get my project going. I checked out your insta, looking like a dream come true man, I'll definitely be following your journey haha.

I didn't know there was a racing rotary scene in Edmonton, I hardly see any RX7's around. I see a yellow FD with a black hood around my area every now and again. I daily drove my rotary in the summer the last 4 years. Tried going to meets, but was either wrong place, or nobody came. I'm not on any social media though.
