Hello

Hello all,

I am new to the ownership of a Rx7.

I was able to get a 1979 all original with approx 220KM on it for $1200 so I jumped on it. I am the car's third owner. The first owner bought it in 1979 and sold it with 190KM to the person I bought it from in 2010. Due to a divorce he only drove the car for 3 years and it sat in his storage unit from 2013 until I bought it 3 weeks ago. Of course it has supposedly never spent a day in the winter and I own it and for the first week it was outside until I could make room in the garage.

Because it sat for so long I have not done anything other than replace the battery and order new tires for the car. My fear is that the condition of the Apex seals is unknown and could have eroded over the 6 1/2 years it sat in storage. I consider myself not to be a mechanic by any means but have thus far managed to complete all automotive work myself that I set out to do. I have only ever had Honda project cars so this will be a first for me, Both in terms of the Wankel engine and Carburetor's.

I do have a mechanic friend who has offered to come over to get the car started and asses if the engine is still in decent shape or not. So I will for sure be searching the forums and if the engine turns out to be non salvageable I will be posting asking for lots of advice! As I mentioned previous project cars were all Honda's and I have a significant cache of parts including a J series V6 with turbo kit so that maybe a possibility as I already have the parts for that swap into a civic.

Anyways I look forward to learning from everyone here. Thanks for reading! Pictures below!

Welcome!! The car appears to be in awesome shape for the age! Don't worry about the apex seals deteriorating form sitting for 6 years. They should be just fine. May want to go through the carb and fuel tank and lines as well as all new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, condenser, belts, hoses, vacuum lines, tires, brakes etc. I would certainly try to start the engine. You might be surprised.
