TN Hello

Hi, I'm Jim from Erin, TN. I own a 1983 Mazda RX-7. I hope to pick up some tips on how to keep it well maintained.

I recently bought a 1980 RX-7 GS. Same story as most. Before I got it sat for a while in carport. It has 130K on it. It cranks and runs, but at idle it lopes. When it has warmed up or after driving, it will idle at 2000 RPM's. My problem is it floods very easily when its turned off and then try to restart. The carb actually fills up with gas. New fuel pump has been installed. Two new fuel filters installed between tank and carb. Some ports on the carb do not have any vacuum lines on them. I have found a place that will rebuild (nikki carb) and test it before sending it back to me. I'm just not sure if that is my problem. It looks as if though things are missing from this carb, but as I say, it runs good when cranked. Any advice from anyone would be well appreciated. I'm new on this site and I find its hard to navigate. Thanks. Jim

Post in new member tech section! Flooding could be missing or inoperative charcoal canister. Rebuild of carb can be done by you, and would be educational and rewarding. Look in 1st gen archive. Carb kit available at rockauto.com.
