GSL-SE Owner?

Hey folks,

I am on the verge of buying a very nice clean 1 owner 1985 GSL-SE that currently does not run. I need to know good sources for motors. A stock motor is basically what I am after, as I live in California and would have to smog the car.

What other years and models of RX-7s have engines that are compatible with GSL-SEs?

Are the JDM motors suitable motors for this?

If the motor in this car is sound what is the range of cost for a rebuild?

By the way, I have been into older Pontiacs but I have always wanted to own a 1st gen RX-7. My father bought one of the very first RX-7s ever imported here. He lived in Santa Barbara at the time and saw one on a car transporter coming from Port Hueneme. He followed the truck to a dealer in Santa Barbara and bought the car that same day. It was a burnt orange GS model and it was the first RX-7 received and sold by that dealership. This was sometime in 1978. That car made quite an impression on me back then (I was 15).

Thanks for any help you can provide....

Welcome welcome.

That sounds like a nice little SE you have there!

They only made 2 model years of the engine that is originally in your car (84 SE and 85 SE), so to keep it original and to keep is smog compliant it would be best just to rebuild the original engine.

Anyways for more indepth answers feel free to search or to ask away on the new member technical question section.
