greetings from socal
Hello everyone!My name is Tim!
I used to own an FD back in high school and I missed the sound of rotary, so I've been searching for an rx7 ever since. Last week I purchased a 1987 turbo II with straight body for 2300 bucks on Craigslist.
$700 later..... egr blockoff fixed, new radiator, leaky oil lines, main and rear seal on tranny, replaced oil pan gasket, o2 sensor, oil level sensor, replaced ghetto racing seat back to stock seat, replaced cracked windshield, scraped off 25 year old tint with a razor blade. WHEW! Nice little welcome back to rotary engines.. and I'm only getting started.
Next on list, high amp alternator, replacing shifter centering spring in shifter block, rewiring speakers to work, pulling dash to find out where shorts are causing warning/sensor lights to come on.
Engine compression showed up 100 so not too bad for stock motor with 160k miles.
It seems like someone had already replaced to s5 turbo.
Car runs and idles nicely now.
Few questions. Any easy ways to prevent flooding altogether other than Haltech or other fuel management systems? Car currently has switch wired to fuel pump
Any advice to a 2nd gen n00b? Thanks guys! I look forward to a fun few years with a project car.

Welcome Tim.
You could clean the injectors, check the water thermo-sender on the back of the waterpump for a bad connection or test it for Spec.
Obviously not a compression or tired engine problem!

are fuel injector cleaner chemicals that you pour into the gas tank safe to use on rotaries? I used to use them all the time on old high mileage cars that I bought, and they used to work wonders. I'm sure the injectors are probably pretty clogged because when I pulled out the spark plugs you could see heavy deposits from using cheap fuel.

I don't recommend fuel additives.
The best thing to do for dirty injectors is to get them Cleaned Professionally.
witchHunter and KGparts(Injector Re-hab) do good work, and the turn around time by mail is good too.I sent some from Canada I got them there, done, and back in nine days.
Dirty spark plugs?change em!

You can take them to a diesel shop that has a cleaning facility.
You are in So-Cal so there should be something.Hell you are in the Hub of Rx7 territory!
Oh and 9 days..ya...send from Canada to Us International mail..get them cleaned, then shipped back again.
Your turn around would and should be less.
