Greetings From Reno, NV.
Hello everyone,My name Is Bob!
I joined this forum a number of years ago however this is indeed my first post.
Now a little about myself. I'm a 27 year old capable mechanic at a local speed shop that specializes in Subaru's. I started auto-crossing when I was 18, I've since attended numerous track days all over the west coast, and recently built a LeMons car. It was out on track for the event in September at Thunderhill, it finished 16th in class, 53rd overall. My history with the RX-7 began when I turned 16 I had my sights set on a FC, it was the first car I started with in the original Gran Turismo, and I loved the idea of a rotary. Such a wonderfully crazy idea, I feel Felix Wankel and Nikola Tesla would have been drinking buddies. My first car was a sweet little S4 N/A FC, I worked two part time jobs to be able to afford one. It was a sweet little car, light, nimble, and simple. It was the highlight of the parking lot in my opinion, until a friend of mine showed up one day with a beautiful 90 Turbo II. Needless to say I was jealous. Unfortunately my S4 FC didn't last longer than a year, I bent it into a wall on down hill of the Virgina City Truck Route (home of the Spectre 341 hill climb). I continued driving it with a crushed in drivers door that no longer opened until the apex seals went shortly thereafter. Then I managed to talk my buddy into selling his 90 Turbo II. I was in the process of saving up the cash when to my dismay he approached me one day and told me he had be in an accident, the right (passenger) door was crushed and the b-pillar had taken some damage. I lost track of the car after that, I graduated moved on.
I had number of different cars over the years but non of them really had the feel my old FC. I tired the AWD turbo thing for a couple of years, with a Galant VR-4, then I bought a WRX in 03. I quickly realized that they're great in a straight line, and on the dirt, but they always felt heavy and numb. I came to the conclusion I wanted a light, simple, naturally aspirated car to help improve my driving technique. I had some awesome FWD cars, a 87 VW Scirocco, and a 87 Toyota FX-16 with a silvertop 20v swap (Fantastic Car). I developed a crush on Toyota after the FX, Seven years ago I had bought a really clean original 85 Corolla GT-S that hadn't been molested, but it needed a complete rebuild which was a little out of capabilities, and budget at the time. I decided to remove it from storage and get started on it last year. Here I am in the middle of a rather extensive build on my 16v 4AGE, when a friend of mine, knowing I have a soft spot for rotaries, asked me to go look at a S5 Turbo II with him. To my surprise it is in fact my other friends old FC that I had tried to purchase nearly 10 years ago.
I had to have it, after 10 years the damn thing just pops up for sale. So I bought it, and towed it down to the shop. It appears to have changed hands a number of times in years, it was owned by someone who worked in a body shop. He replaced the damaged door, and started repairs on the b-pillar (a rather poor repair job). Its not running at the moment its been sitting for a number of years, it has some kind of fuel concern. I honestly haven't had an opportunity to get deep into it, the only thing I've done is checked rotor pulse, which is right on the money. I'm going to rip it apart give the fuel system a overhaul. Get the injectors flow tested and cleaned, pulsation dampener, pressure regulator, pump, filter, clean the tank. Just give the car a complete once over before I try to drive the little guy.
The important thing is I saved it.

Reno is just like any other city if you avoid downtown. Although they are making attempts to create a little more of an art district, and Tahoe is great year round. I must say it is wonderful to be able to head down to the pub at say 2am for a pint. Cold, but mostly dry winters, and its in the desert so no rust! Our local SCCA region is really friendly, and quite talented. Our Petrol comes from California so it is on the high side price wise.
