Talking Greetings from Germany (but not from a german)

Hello all, my name is Andrew. I just (finally) got myself one of these here rotary thingies, so I figured I would stop lurking and start posting.

A bit about me, I'm kinda goofy, but not all the time. This isn't my first forum rodeo, so no worries about me being a noobish troll or anything like that, I'll be good, I promise. Also, to explain the title of the thread, I am a 'merican stationed over here in the Deutschland, hence the "not a german" thing.

The car: I got myself an 84 RX-7 GSL (I think it is a GSL, Rear discs and LSD but with a 12a) for 800 euros, about $1200 USD at the time. It needs some TLC, but it is pretty solid. I was driving it home and the water pump to engine gasket blew, but luckily I had water on hand and the leak wasn't too bad, I was able to limp it home without overheating. I suppose that's a good way to finally start off the rotary experience, with something breaking, heh. It's fixed now, and immediately after making my repairs and a slight tune up I took it for two laps of the Nurburgring, where I was passed by everything possible, but had more fun than anyone else, I suspect. I did manage to overtake a panamera diesel, so I suppose that's OK. It was definitley more fun than the 91 750i BMW I have, that's for sure.

Although this is the first rotary I have owned, my dad had an 84 GS, so I'm not completely new, plus the FAQs here have helped me out a bit. I'm planning on Holley carb and RB exhaust, I want to throw some Axis OG wheels on her and do some fender flares, and some kind of suspension modification, hopefully coilovers. The plan is to make it quick and handle like even more of a go-kart, but one that can hold its own in traffic a bit better over here.

I am not sure how much you are "supposed" to post for your intro, but I'm gonna call this good for now.

Congrats on not overheating! My first rx was the same, with the mods you discussed, and my favorite part was only needing steering and gas. Welcome to rotaries

Thanks man! It's fixed now, but there are a few cooling gremlins I need to work out yet. I need to do a few more things, I think. I definitley need a new radiator at some point, this one is a bit shabby. Gotta love 26 year old copper parts...

I've had good luck so far. (my responses are slow due to lack of internet at my house, i'm off the grid, lol)

My only real problems now are rust repair. Due to being USAF over here, I am required to go through the army for their inspection procedures, and they are real bastards about rust. There are a couple of small holes on the rocker panel and underneath that I can get welded by a local mechanic, but I need to find the rear valance panel under the bumper, that thing is half gone around the exhaust. All those exhaust fumes combined with the horrendous amount of salt on the roads here in winters seem to have done quite a number on that panel.

I have decided to do an update and another run at using the damn forum for once.

Since starting this thread I have returned to the US with my car.

I have done as much research as possible about my car, and here's what I have found:
It's a 12a car, but has all the GSLSE running gear. Trans, rear end, brakes, 4x114 wheels, etc.
It's an 84, has a cat, but has the thermal reactor style vent tube exhaust setup.
It has back seats instead of storage bins.
It has a rear wiper with washer (not sure about this as an option, my dad's didn't have it).
It has headlight washer sprayers in the bumper.
The headlights are NOT sealed beam, but an H4 housing made by Hella. They are spectacular as well.

After sitting unattended due to my legal inability to drive a car right now, I think it has developed the dreaded internal coolant leak. Last time I started it I got copious amounts of white smoke and died a little inside.

I have pretty much decided that once I get financially stable, it's getting a stock 20b swap, no mods. 300hp should be more than enough.

Also, my original wheel plan of Axis OGs fell through when some Advan Onis fell in to my lap, so that's a great thing. Those are waiting to get fresh hardware, again when I can afford it, and also some very nice tires. With any luck, It'll be running around for the summer, but I seriously doubt it unless my job prospects brighten up a bit.

If anyone has any questions about my oddball car, feel free to ask, I'm going to make a conscious effort to actually be on the forums, heh.
