good trade?

sup? i got to talkin with an old friend this week and he was lookin 4 a stereo head unit for his jeep and we started talkin trades and he brought up an rx7 he has thats broken down and he needs it gone.. immediately i had visions of my own 1st generation rx7 project.. so he got my 70 dollar cd player and i got some tools and a rx7, not a bad trade i'd say.. which brings me here.. well i cant wait to start tinkering with my new project, im thinkin an ls1 v8 is in my future... my dad rolls a slightly modded 2005 c6 vette and im hopin to build this baby fast enough to 1 up his car

ok here are some pics of the new seven i took today.. when i popped off the top plate of the air cleaner i noticed a bunch of shreds of fabric inside, i went to poke my finger at it trying to figure out whut the hell it was doing there and then i started seeing something furry move around and it scared the crap out of me lol... turns out i had myself a real "rats nest" to remove.. lol...

cant be good for the carburator though with all the stuff that fell down in it, if any1 has any suggestions let me know please.

ive yet to put a battery in it to try and start it but i do know it was being worked on before it was abandoned, i just wanna see if it turns over and go frum there, but im still considering swapping for a v8!.. as you can tell from the pics i have some hunting down to do... both front fenders are damaged as well as the front bumper, windshield, and hood... im hopin to score those at the junk yard, or go aftermarket.. well ill be keepn yall posted and hopefully ill make fast progress tho i am a total noob.. suggestions are appreciated!

LOL.. so u guys think i shouldnt even bother with trying to get that motor running? the last owner said it ran good before her ex tweeker husband started workin on it.. other than that i have know idea whut could've been wrong with it.. i think ill see iff all the instruments power on atleast and get a look at the odometer... i dont know if i wanna spend the dough for a LS1 but im still gonna do some researching and some shopping for a small block ....

Also im gonna be looking for a front end soon... is it possible to do a second gen conversion to the front end? or even a 3rd gen conversion? i dont know if they would look right but i wanna explore the possibilitys!

I had a rodent somewhere in my FD-it chewed through some wires and hoses-not good with the miles of the hoses in there.
A shop got that straightened out.

Definitely take the carb off and apart-clean it up BEFORE you try to crank it. Check the compression.
You never know, might surprise you and work. Worth a try without putting in any $$
If not it might be easier to start with another engine from the yard that has compression.
Put on a front end and drive the thing. You won't win in the 1/4, but I think you will have fun and learn a lot.

i wouldnt give up on it just yet, but you got alot of cleaning to do.
clean all that crap out of your carb {duh} and just look around your motor try and find any vacume hoses that might need to be replaced or caped off, any wires just hanging try and find where they went.
just get a feel for your car and you'll have a rollin rex in no time

thanks for everyones advice and insight, im going to clean the sucker up and see whut happens... but i have a question...

there was a repair manual in the car.. on the first page there is some writing that looks like a small checklist... the writing says: "front bearing seals, fuel filter at carb, new bearing grease anything but white"... i have a feeling these problems have not been fixed.... my question is, where are the "front bearing seals" located? could these be the oil seals that are on the actual rotor? or something easier?

that's a damn good trade. There is ONE guy that has successfully made a hybrid FB/FD, but it took a ton of work. Clean out the air filter holder thing with a shop vac, and go into the FB section. There is a thread in the FAQ section about starting a car that has been sitting for a while.
