MI Former Mazda Ad Guy

My name is Preston and I live in Metro Detroit, but I got my start in advertising at Foote, Cone & Belding, in Santa Ana, CA from 1985 to 1992. Part of that time, I wrote and produced Mazda Auto Show racing videos. Mazda was big in IMSA Camel Lights, in GTO and GTU with the RX-7, as well the Sedan classes with the 626 and 323. Rod Millen was tearing up rally events in his custom-built AWD RX-7. I even got a ride while he was testing it out in Taft, California, and it scared the crap outta me! Glenn "Fireball" Harris was racing Mazda stadium trucks in the Mickey Thompson series. All in all, it was a helluva time to be covering Mazda Motorsports! I eventually worked my way up to copywriting, helping to launch the Miata in the U.S. I got to drive every car and truck Mazda introduced during my time at the agency, and the most memorable were the Miata and the 3rd-Gen RX-7. I've owned a 626 5-door and a 93 Probe GT (Mazda under the skin). I'm looking at a used 94 3rd-Gen Base with 54k miles. Owner says engine was replaced at 35k. Other than that, it is bone-stock and I plan to leave it that way. It will be my summer car only. Has anyone put together a comprehensive "What to look for when buying a used 3rd-Gen RX-7" thread or document? I've heard the 3rd-Gen can be a lot of trouble and I want to know what I'm getting into. I'm not a racer or modder or collector. Just a guy who is considering buying what he considers one of the most beautiful and unique sports cars ever built. Many thanks for your help.
