TX First RX7s in USA

Back when the RX7s were first imported to the USA, my buddy was writing service at a Houston Mazda dealership and offered the opportunity to come over after hours to take apart a RX7 rotary engine. I jumped at the chance to see the inside of this mysterious power plant. It seems the new owner only had a few miles on the car and had neglected to follow the rules concerning oil levels. Yep, the engine was trashed and as we know now, it would not be the first to succumb to no oil in the fuel mix. The look-see inside the rotary was a blast. We must have had 20 people looking at the pieces and parts during the tear down wondering how in the world did this little engine work. In the years to follow I owned four RX7s and never forgot the first rotary lesson.

Welcome!! What year 7 do you have? Memories like that are something that will stick with you forever! I remember the first time I laid eyes on an FB and I remember my first time driving one. I cherish those memories!

Thanks for your reply. I have a '90 Turbo II in black purchased new. Previously had '83 and '84 RX7s. I've road raced a '83 RX7 in SCCA. All fun.

The 1st gen's are so much fun. So raw and enjoyably as a sports car or daily driver! Did you order your TII or was it on the lot when you found it? Would love to see some pictures of the car!
