I too have longed for a rx7 for quite some time now and am planning on purchasing one this summer or even sooner, from information that ive gathered from many many many previous rx7 owners both FD and FC, the rx7 is extremely un-first-time-buyer-friendly lol. the rotary engine can provide some thrills but from what people tell me its very difficult to maintain. unless you can work on cars yourself it will be a costly car to maintain. If you are using it for the track i recommend getting a daily so you dont beat ur rx7 to death, thats what im doing i hope that this helps, i suggest looking at FAQ's and posts about this similar topic out there to absorb the wealth of information out there.

I live in Georgia too but I just got an rx7 myself and so far I LOVE it. I've driven many cars and the rx7's have so much power I love them. Mine was made in 87' and it has about 156k on it. The car is completely stock which Im so glad for because I have the chance to work on it now. To me, the best part about having a car is being able to work on it so I wouldn't let the rotary engine keep you away from getting the car if its what you really want.

What ever your choice is, good luck!

I own a 86 non turbo came with the 13B and 250K miles on it. Couple rebulids. Anyway it has a bulit 302 in it and it hauls ***! But back to topic there definetly not the best first car but can bed daily driven. You just have to know what your doing when you buy one. I learned

I learned the hard way that's for sure. Had no idea what I was doing! I drove my buddies 7 one day and I said I have to have it. Even tho the low collant buzzer was goin mot of the time he'd told me it just neededd to be filled up. Of course he was wrong. Come to find out its very common for these to blow apex seals which is kind of like a head gasket. And that's what was really wrong with mine that's why it was pushin coolant. I drove it anyway for a few months it ran perfect jus pushed coolant. I paid 2k for the car so I wanted to do something with it. I looked at rebuildin my 13B but when it came down do it, it was gonna cost me like 2 grand do do a basic rebuild. Wouldn't of even gained any horsepower. So instead I put a 5.0 HO motor in it. Got twice as much power. All new interior, got the round tail lights, custom dual 2.5 inch exhaust. Chrome everything, been workin on it for two years now. You guys should check into it, u can get a shell for cheap and grannys speed shop sells easy bolt in kits for all kinds of motors, chevy, ford, nissan all 3 gens too. They said they got a few 86 FCs with a stock 302 stock rear end running low to mid 12's. And NO I don't work for grannys and no I'm not hatin on reg rx-7s! I love them all. But when it came down do it I didn't want to spend the same money and get half the power.

I heard they have to be warmed up??? Is this fact or fiction? Also if I were buying one make sure to take it some where that's k.nows what there doing. that's where I messed up. Trusted someone I shouldn't of. He also told me the P.S. was completly removed from the car but really it was just totally out of fluid!! LoL, some guy. Eh?They can test the apex seals I was talking about. And check over the whole car, id suggest it to anyone that's not 100% sure about the car.

Ive heard the same as well. I mean on most cars thats common sense if its cold, let the oil and what not warm up a bit get to running temp. So It would be safe to assume the same with these. But if Im in a rush normally and NEED to go, I just keep it in the lower RPMs till its warmed up a bit, no crazy ish.

Im not sure if it would be a good "first car" Learning how to drive is dangerous enough without being behind the wheel of a fast sports car, not to mention, these cars aren't cheap to work on/own. I just bought my first Rx7, and lemme tell ya, things aint cheap for it. Just being a realist here.

It all depends on your situation and how much you want to learn about cars. If you are interested, the board has almost every common problem that happens to rotarys, and how to fix it. Make sure you do reliability mods before you go for lots of power, it sucks to have something like overheating from an old thermostat kill your engine and unexpectedly cost you a lot of money.

Absolutely! Just dont drive it. Buy a beater to drive around. Some people need experience and you don't want to get that experience in your dream car. God forbid if you or some one else wrecks it. :/
