First RX-7
Hello! My name is Brent! I live in telluride, colorado! New to the forum AND RX-7's. I am a certified mechanic and I've owned/bought/worked many cars since I was 18. I specialize and love Supras(mki-iii, 5m's, 7m's, 1/2jz, etc) and land rovers(off all things....lol). But I've owned and worked on 240sx(s13's, s14's, sr20 swaps, rb25 swaps, etc), FC RX-7s(only work on), DSM's(worked on a bunch, owned one and will never again), etc.
Recently, I saw a craigslist add for a pretty clean FD RX-7. I jumped on it and nice looking and well maintenanced vehicle. The chassis has 106,000 miles on it. The previous owner owned it since 2001. Garage kept, heavily maintenanced(paperwork all the way back to its preinspection before it was first sold), and allowed to warm up/cool down before/after each drive. Oil changes as early as 1500 miles, max 3000 miles. He got about 87,000 miles before one of the Apex seals took a dump. He took the car to the stealership and they put a new motor/clutch in. The car runs/drives great, ZERO smoke ZERO leaks. It does idle does bounce around, every once in a while, after warm. But nothing too crazy. Has a new CSF racing rad and Alluminum air separation tank. The only negative is the exhaust is pretty rusted. I've looked into these cars and found the pre-cats on these cars cause a lot of issues. So I'm going to purchase a Bonex Downpipe/cat mid pipe, and a Racing Beat twin tip cat back exhaust. I'm also going to purchase a 180 degree thermostat/fan switch, full tune up with NGK(plugs/wires), Denso o2 sensor and turbo timer. I have a boost gauge somewhere in my house, but gotta find it.
I hope this cars works out by taking these steps to improve it. Either way, I will make it as reliable as my pocketbook allows!
Cheers!
Here is some pics from the Craigslist add and from after I got the car home.
Enjoy!
