Decided to start fresh ... ish

So although ive been pretty inactive on all the direct forums im a member of due to being a rFBA (recovering facebook addict) im trying to slowly draw back up the knowledge from the cars i really enjoyed owning and driving, and the corresponding forums for said platforms.

Hands down my favorite sport platform was my 79 sa22 with the gsl-se running gear conversion, tied in 1st place with 2 neons i owned, 1 was an acr with a 2.4 bottom end swap (160+ lb/ft of torque under 3,000 revs naturally aspirated with a 4 cylinder) and koni blacks, and the jade sport with the afx race ecu, afx longtube, one-off custom stainless exhaust and acr trans with a quaiffe lsd) that brought me to 130+ mph in 4th gear.

Anyways, i recently moved from the toxicly overly developed and hyper expanding area known as portland oregon to KFC-ville, which not only brought a massive reduction in my expense to income ratio, but also gave me a wonderful opportunity to slowly and gradually get into being able to build pretty much whatever i want. this came with getting married to the woman of my dreams, and a by-product of that is that her parents own 24 acres, paid for, her car is a hamster wagon (2010 kia soul with right at 100k miles on it, its slow, i know) paid for, the house and 1/4 acre of land we live on is paid for. We bought a NEW awd car (2016 mazda cx3) for her to drive during the winter, and my current lead sled, a STOCK 3 pedal vw jetta tdi (alh 1.9 litre rotary injection pump diesel engine with the DBW throttle system) thats slowly disintegrating electronically.

Now that ive gotten the mumbo jumbo out of the way, i can tell you what my first couple of swap plans are. The engine in the jetta sedan is going to come out and go into a jetta wagon, which is in almost pristine condition except that the motor most likely threw a rod. once the wagon is running and driving and ive got the kinks worked out of it, im going to tear the entire jetta sedan chassis down to everything thats not welded in, and start planning for a massively mutant swap

(thinking huge streetport 13b and a screwcharger, or some giant port job on a 20b, for the powerplant) then a one off long travel suspenion setup for the front, and havent decided on the rear suspension setup yet. thats for the jetta.)

For the guts coming out of the jetta (the ecu, the cluster, the key fob, the steering column, and the engine harness are all dependant and sort of locked into each other electronically) im thinking of doing an alh tdi swap into a 1gn 7, just starting out with the goal of getting it running and driving, possibly using a ford mustang style 5 speed transmission to utilize the super tall 5th gear so i dont have to change the rear end at this stage., only true custom parts will be:

1.) motor mounts,
2.) wiring integration (easy for me),
3.) custom clutch, flywheel and pressure plate,
4.) custom bellhousing,
5.) custom driveshaft.

The super simple break down of all that would be:

1.) jetta sedan engine into the jetta wagon
2.) electronics and hardware required to run the engine from the jetta sedan harvested and saved for the tdi swap into a 1gn 7
3.) find a 1gn 7, running and driving if possible, fix EVERYTHING wrong with it while its still an rx7
4.) strip everything out of the rx7 to use as a template to get the jetta running and driving under triangle power
5.) stare at a naked german and a naked japanese car sitting taking up both bays in the garage i HAVENT EVEN BUILT YET ...
6.) make shyte happen !

Once the "DIESEL7" is up, running and driving, it should be able to move around fine under the stock tdi's power band, which is only 90 bhp, but it generates 155 lb/ft of torque at only 1,900 revs, and combinded with the fact that a 1gn rx7 is somewhere around 750 pounds LIGHTER then a mk4 jetta tdi, just cruisin around should be fine. ultimate goal will be around 250 wheel horsepower and 450 wheel torque on the alh, then maybe get into monkeying around with a common rail "diesel gate scandal motor" engine platform, and aim for 100 mpg with a 1 off, cylinder shutdown system. not sure yet.

plans for the jetta would be baja racing, quick change drivetrain EVERYTHING, and just all around general badassery. that is all ...
