Completely New (too!)
thrilled to have found this site and hope you will bear with me as I become more familiar with the categorization of various threads....
i'm blown away by what I've stumbled upon so far... so many really exciting restores going on by people who really know how to go about it... i'm jealous.
wondering though if there is room in here for a complete newbie like me who is more "hands off"? here's my story. if there is anyone out there who cares to offer any comment or advice, go right ahead. I'll appreciate it.
the love of my life, a newly painted bronze coloured 85 rx was stolen and stripped five or so years ago. I eventually got the car back when it was abandoned.... many interior parts were missing and the engine "sounded different" Still though, my baby was back. due to other circumstances, I had no other choice but to park the car until I could face the damage and afford the repairs....
skip forward five canadian winters, and the shell of the car is still parked, where I last left it. most of the body is still pristine.... but a "friend" says the underside is all rusted.
1) I wonder if a body can be "lifted" and simply placed on another RX7... to someone like me that sounds like a reasonable question - but judging by the "friend"'s reaction, it's stupid of me to ask...
2) i wonder if fixing all that undercarriage rust is "doable" or whether it truly is "something that would cost much more than it would be worth"
3) i wonder if i should just give up on this baby, and turn to a "next best thing" that has reared it's own tired bronze head on the horizon - another 85 rx7 in this area... without any body rust whatsoever, but with a "tired" paint job. What bugs me? This second car is not the first - i mean, I made memories in that first one! Also, it has a red interior --- not as pretty and quite a bit more jarring on the eyes as the brown interior i had on the first....
so i'll be buying this second car.. while the love of my life spends another five years parked... waiting for me to find someone to bring it back to life.
what would YOU do?
