PA Back on the road

Well, after 3 years sitting in my garage, and probably a few hundred miles in the two years prior to that, I have my '93 Red R1 back on the road. It just came back from state inspection and a change of all the fluids. I'm not too surprised that the local dealer didn't have parts (I brought the Redline fluids myself), so I'll be headed back when the plugs and fuel filter are delivered.

I suspect I'm one of the few original owners here. Mine was manufactured in 5/92 but I didn't buy it until 8/93. So the car is a bit over 19 years old and I've had it nearly 18 now. 59K miles on the clock, probably 2,000 in the last 8 years. I must admit, after having an E39 M5 as a daily driver for the last 4 years (now with 100,005 miles on it), the 7 is a noisy, rough, scary beast. But my kids enjoyed the rides.

I did some light modifications years ago. I dyno'd it once back in the late '90s - 321RWHP at about 12psi. It still goes 12-10-12 psi on the turbos and 16'ish psi of vacuum at idle, so sitting for 3 years doesn't seem to have hurt (after 15-20 miles running the flat spots of the tires - thunk, thunk, thunk).

I'd feel better if there were a decent mechanic here in the Pittsburgh area, but I'll just drive it until it dies, I suppose.

Nice to hear I wasn't the only one, my fd sat for about 3 years also cuz kids were young, started it up last year, bad water seals, dropped another motor in earlier this year, new tires and now it's my daily driver. Congrats!

Welcome.

Glad to hear it started right up. Even though it runs well now 3 years of sitting can do damage. Speed 1 (formerly KDR) is probably the closest rotary shop to you. Id have it checked out.

18 years of FD ownership!
