thats the first thing that I thought of when I saw this thread. But it's always interesting to see other types of swaps people do. Personally, If I owned and FD I would leave the rotary. Either way if you do the swap enjoy it.

very true i would also leave the original motor but thats only me and people doing different things is what keeps the world moving so go ahead and enjoy it !!!

so awesome!! good choice

SupraRzTT 07-24-12 08:58 PM

Cool build, jz motors are awesome

congiirepair 07-25-12 11:46 AM

Rx7s are just the best

vampirebeats 07-25-12 11:47 AM

supra owners like to charge supra prices for their parts. That's the main reason why i picked up a FC.

Im planning on getting my first RX7 FD,so i cant input on how well the 13b motor is,but i can speak on behalf the 2jzgte motor, and to sum it up in my opinion, the 2jzgte is such a power house motor witch out compensating Reliabilty and MPG.

thats definitely interesting

Sam Davidson 07-29-12 02:01 AM

Rotary for life!!!

rx7z 07-29-12 05:42 PM

thanks for the welcome guys..

just to fill you in..rotaries are impossible to maintain where I am. there hasn't been an official (nor unofficial) mazda dealership in this country since the mid 70s.

all (around 40/50) Rx7s were imported over the years from Japan and once the rotaries died they would be swapped out with 1jz/2jz.

there is no SWAP KIT! the existing engine cradle for the rotaries is used with some welded on fabricated joints and hangers to hold the 1jz/2jz in place. The firewall is not cut in anyway. The normal go high and lose the hood vs go low and move the stem issue is common here.

anyone who thinks only swap kits are the way to go (personally i want one) the truth is that we have a few very heavily tuned rx7s running 2jz using the same modified original engine cradle so it does work.

just bought an FD and have a 2j sitting in my garage, im gonna enjoy the rotary for the summer then stuff the 2j in this winter. i figure it'd be rude if i didnt.. having it just sit there is starting to bother me.

Nice

twinpyr0 08-01-12 01:07 PM

i remeber when this was first done by a shop by my old house called sp engineering, they called the car the supra7

RubenTheRabbit 08-02-12 05:38 PM

Do it!... heres a list of friends with experience regarding 1j swaps.. gtus, sc300, e30 318... and a ford ranger lol... the gtus makes over 400whp and ran a 12.50 on 205 snow tires! But not in the snow )-: like a wrc car would... darn wrc cars being all awesome like

tervanun 08-03-12 03:27 AM

Sounds like an interesting project!
I considered a 1/2JZ swap for my 240z project, but now Im swapping in a 13b haha

RubenTheRabbit 08-03-12 01:00 PM

You should get a medal sir... thats a step in a different direction. I would giggle like a school girl hearing rotary sounds from a s chassis

RubenTheRabbit 08-03-12 01:01 PM

Sorry z car lol.. but one more post yayy

Signalrx7 08-03-12 07:01 PM

That thing is gonna need wings... Lol

ohemgeeitsniko 08-05-12 01:14 AM

i think i saw a thread a while back on another forum about a 2jz swapped fd. it was really clean and it's insane how easy they make power. my tuner has a supra with a precision 6262 running like 13psi and he's making like high 600's.

1sic7 08-05-12 03:38 PM

wow thats a really col swap

Acidia609 08-05-12 11:45 PM

2JZ most expensive engine to upgrade/tune/maintance .... ive worked on plently of these working at toyota of redlands... Id prefer LS1 ... from factory they will get you 300 to the wheel.. not to mention their light so if you want to drift/autocross ur weight ratio will be close to 60/40. I don't know the exact weight but i know they are lighter than a nissan ka24de.

pashka 08-11-12 11:09 PM

Keep the rotary in the RX-7. That is the heart and soul of that car. If you want more power, buy a cosmo 3 rotor, and blow any 2JZ or LS swap out of water!

Dream20b-IL 08-13-12 03:51 PM

To each their own, Welcome.

I wanted to do a 2JZ in a Z31, but decided not to.
