NE 94 Montego Rx7

Had the car since April, been trying to fix the "hack" job the previous owner did as you can see in the pics. About 50 feet of useless wire. This involves of taking out the dash and soldering the original wiring harness back together. Also there is a safe guard from J&S that's wired in the car that I'm removing. It's practically useless from what I've read on forms. I drove the car for about 50 miles to get a feel for it before storing it in the garage on jack stands for the over haul it's about to get. Not to mention, I did a compression check and showing great numbers but I'm getting black/blue smoke out the exhaust. Could be anything, whatever.

I've always wanted an rx7 since middle school. I love the rotary and hate LS swaps. I also love the twins and think I'm going to upgrade my 99 spec twins to the BNR stage 3 twins, who knows! I've been rumbling enough and doubt anyone cares about this post anyways.

Gotta love the electrical twist nuts. Good luck with that mess (you may better off getting a new wiring harness)

And i would keep the 99 turbos. Not sure BNRs are that big of an improvement (unless yours are worn out). Nice SMIC though. Can't tell, but hope it's ducted

The wiring isn't that bad, just looks bad.. lol. And no it's not ducted, it's a greedy intercooler. The turbos have shaft play and hits the housings. This car had 7 owners so... Lots of interesting things that were not done correctly.

At least you have good compression

The black smoke could be from burning oil, maybe from your turbos if they are truly worn.

If your car is going to be up on stands for a while, make sure your gas tank is full (with pre-mix), lube your rotors, change your oil and coolant with a good corrosive inhibiting coolant (and no water). Then you'll want to spin it every couple of weeks or so.

Yeah I was was thinking the same about the turbos and was going to check the turbine side for signs of oil but I'm also thinking it could be the oil control ring springs got week. Idk. And thanks about the advice for keeping the car maintained while it sits. And I drained the coolant because I wanted the ast out the way while I work on it.. it should be fine but I'll oil down the housings with oil.

Nvm. It's safer to put coolant in there. I got to stop being lazy
