An electric fan and then a good exhaust system are good, relatively cheap first timer mods that will reward your efforts quite well.

There is a lever with a spring and a T-top on the stock carb that, when delivered new from the factory, was set so only two of the four barrels worked. The dealership used to charge $85 to modify it so that all four barrels worked. A needle nosed plier and 10 seconds could save you $85 if you knew "the secret". Grab the top of the lever/plunger, near the T. Pull up; hook the "T" on to the arm a few inches above it. The secondaries are now operable.
