MS 2nd Tour of Rx-7 Ownership

Hello there. I'm obviously a newbie to the RX7Club.com postings, here to tell you a bit about myself.

I'm a 38yr old non-mechanic. I can change oil, plugs, wires, belts, fuses, bulbs, etc. If you say "my alternator is bad, here is a new one", I can replace it. But beyond a pull/replace of basic stuff, I'm at a loss.

I had my first rotary, a sweet little 1983 Rx7 back in high school. I loved that car. The little beer keg motor would gladly swing up to the redline and sometimes beyond.

Went through a restoration project on a 1966 Mustang, which was fun, but sold it after getting about 85% completed. I have a young son and time was precious.

I always wanted to have another Rx7, and really wanted a GenIII. A co-worker of mine was moving and didn't have room to take his 1991 Convertible. The body was in good shape, the engine/transmission 'seemed' to be OK (it would start and move), but it needed an interior and a new top.

The price was right and I thought I could restore it to a fun weekend car without alot of investment and have a nice ride.

It smokes like a late freight at startup, but it seems that is very (painfully) normal for this car.

The interior didn't bother me because after learning some stuff on the Mustang project, I knew that was an easy fix...You pay someone to do it!

After a "freshen up" on the engine...plugs, belts, wires, hoses, fluids...I found that the clutch slave cylinder needed replacement...that was done.

Then, it started completely bogging, to the point of shutting off at 1/2 throttle...That is why I'm coming to you guys, the gurus. I've replaced the fuel filter, had the fuel pump and lines checked. Cleaned the fuel tank...

Can't find anything that would cause this.

Hoping that I can find out some information that will help me and then as I build/work on this car even possibly help out others.

thanks much,
Ty Hardin
