Hi all, I've been lurking in this forum for a while now. This forum has so much useful stuff!

Here is my 1994 Mazda RX7 Type R. Imported from Japan last year as a grade 4.5 with 45 000 kms (28 000 miles). I'm the second NZ owner and the fourth owner since new according to the documentation I could find. It is stock except for a Fujitsubo cat-back exhaust.

As I bought it in March


I put OEM wheels on it with new Bridgestone RE003 tyres.


Current plans for the car are reliability modifications, track days, and "OEM+" style restoration.

Thanks, it isn't perfect but its great for a car from 1994! Compared to most old red Mazdas I have seen, the paint is in good condition. Most have ruined clear coat and faded to pink. The colour on my car really pops in the sun. I really need to detail it properly and get some high quality photos of it, I've only got cellphone pics.

 

A detail will go a long way. You might want to check how much clear coat you have on the car. Most good detailers have a paint thickness gauge that will tell you how much you have left.

Now that is a good idea Will that be useful to find out what type of cutting & polishing I should do?

 

Basically you will know how aggressive you can go with the polishing. In essence, polishing removes some of your clear coat in order to get rid of imperfections in the surface (scratches). Just like sanding.

You need to be sure you dont "sand" through your clear coat.

Thanks for the tips, I'll keep it in mind for when I eventually get around to detailing. It's not a job I enjoy but the end result should be worth it.

There are lots of FDs here Don't see them very often though. You should add a thread for your car.
Are you coming to Chrome on the first weekend of August? About 40 RX7s are registered, so it will be awesome.

 

I hope to be there and take pics for my photography page. Sadly my car has been in the shed for 8months and needs the new turbos in and needs to be road legal . Ill make a thread of it
