10th AE Questions

Good morning everyone. I am new to the site and was hoping to get some info on my 10th AE. I recently inherited the car from my Aunt who purchased it new in 88. It was parked in her garage over a decade ago with just under 30k original miles. After sitting for such a long time, I am not sure what kind of shape the motor and turbos are in as well as everything else on it. I see that the value of theses is pretty low and I was wondering if there is any benefit to keeping them completely stock. I know there are a lot of paint issues with these and it doesn't look to be too bad currently, but I am sure it will start presenting issues after I get it cleaned up. The tires are flat and the door moldings are falling off, but the interior is almost pristine.

I plan on keeping it white, but I am sure it will need a paint job. What kind of depreciation would I be looking at if it wasn't the exact factory color? Are performance mods not worth it on an AE?

My first car was actually an 88 non-turbo RX-7 which I absolutely loved and she used to let me drive the AE on occasion. I remember it being pretty darn quick at the time.

Any suggestions? Should I bring it back to stock condition and just have fun with it? Or should I upgrade the turbo, suspension, exhaust, etc. and make it a rocket ship?

Thanks,

-Ben

Hi Ben. My personal opinion, being a 10ae owner, keep it as stock as possible since it was a one owner, unmolested car. Many of these cars are like my own, it was obtained with nearly ALL the 10ae stuff missing/damaged besides the flaking paint and vin number. Nothing wrong with doing some tasteful mods, IMO, but I wouldn't go full out and mod the hell out of one as complete as yours.

Also, it's a single turbo car, there are no "turbos"

Thanks for the response. I wasn't planning on doing much other than cleaning it up and likely swapping the wheels (obviously keeping the originals). My vision included a fresh coat of monochromatic white with black BBS LM or CH style wheels.

I was mainly interested in performance mods since it will need a good once over after sitting for so long. I figured if I was going to have most of it apart I might as well improve where I can (keeping it a simple as possible without breaking the bank). Stuff like a turbo upgrade if the original is seized up, less restrictive exhaust, etc. Nothing crazy or super expensive.

As far as the turbo(s) go, I haven't looked at anything RX-7 related since the mid-late 90s...I always thought it was a twin turbo setup. Now I feel stupid lol
