Yellow Euro Style HID Head Light conversion ..

Well I have been wanting to get rid of the Frog Eye lights that came with my car, luckily the stock flip up's came with the car, but the plastic covers were destroyed, so I got a new set from Mazda.
So I bought a HID kit for the FD, but wanted to get another set of head light housings like the Diamond ones or something thats a bit more clear to get the most of of my HID kit .
Well I ran accross these Euro Style Yellow housings I though might look cool, but when I get them in I realize the mounting tabs that allow you to connect the housing to the assembly & adjustment screws arent there, they are basically just a square head light with no way to mount them to the adjuster tabs to hold them in place. So I took on the mission of making it happen. I always like a challenge hehe ..
So what I did was cut the tabs off the stock housings, took some accurate messurments to make sure they went exactly where they needed to go & epoxied the tabs on to the new yellow housings I bought. I wanted to make sure it was gonna be strong enough, so I also used some Dura Glass, put that all around the tabs & went to work with the dremel, shaping & smoothing them, then painted the rest of the housing flat black.
I test fitted everything & everything looked like I might be on to something good.
So I wanted to swap my 93 bumper out with a 99 spec bumper thats been sitting in my garage for months now anyways & decided it best to do the lights & bumper @ the same time.
The Yellow housing have a green running light bulb inside of them as well that gets connected to the parking lights, they look pretty good @ night with just the parking lights on ..
So I got everything installed today & hooked everything up, they accually turned out good & Im pleased with the look. I think its unique & you wont see to many FD's with this set up ..
Im just hopping I dont get a ticket if I ever need to use them @ night, cause Im quite sure they are not legal .. But I dont give a damn they look damn good & their stayin right where they are..
I also installed my 99 spec rear wing today & will be installing my side skirts tomorrow, so Ill post those pics up tomorrow as well, the car is is finally comin together, but I need a set of 99 spec front bumper signal lights so if anyone has some they want to get off of let me know.

So heres the pictures of the project, let me know what you all think about em ..

They way the lights came:

What they looked like after I put the tabs on them:

What they looked like installed in the assembly With the trim:

With the green parking lights on:

With the lights off:

With the HID & parking lights on:

Heres what it looked like before:

Here what it looks like now:

Not sure how I feel about the yellow, but technically it doesn't matter since you don't drive with them up during the day anyways.

Green parking lights ..
There is a small green bulb inside the housings. When you turn the parking lights on they come on as well ..

so...... lets see the beam pattern

How are they HID? h4 HID retrofit kit? You're gonna blind the crap out of everyone else on the road with those if it's an h4 HID cause of that particular reflector housing. Not only is it not courteous to other drives, it's dangerous.

Also, you claim that you got "clear lenses" to make the most of the HID's , but then you reduced the output significantly by tinting them yellow. I guarantee you have MUCH less light with the yellow tint than the stock housing, but it doesn't matter cause the light is just randomly thrown out there in front of you anyway. But hey, what do *I* know about lights anyway.... Enjoy.

Let me start off by saying,
TO EACH THEIR OWN.... BUT

Let me see if I understand this correctly. In order for your "green" parking lights to work, you'd have to press the headlight up button to flip the lights up (while they're off) then turn on the parking lights correct? I dunno about you, but I absolutely hate driving with my headlights popped up unless I actually need to use my headlights. Driving around with your headlights popped doesn't add anything to the car, they were made to keep the look of the car while they're down haha.

The FD needs as much help as it can get in the headlight output department, you're going the wrong way.

Oh yeah as stated above, you already have a thread on this topic.... Repost?

What I said is I ditn want to use the stock housings I wanted you use the newer housings that are clear allow the light to disperse better. Then I ran accross these ..
I know that out put weont be as much as a clear housing, but I light the euro look ..
Light fog lights, I would rather have Yellow gog ligts then clear or bluse fog lights that why I went with these ..
They are different & thas why I like them ..
That was the whole point was to do something different that I havent seen dne before ..
I like them & thats all that matters I will try to take some pictures of the beam pattern @ night so you guyz can see what they look like ..

ok, so those would be the sonar housings and are clear and meant for the FD specifically. also, since H4 HID kits do not use a bulb designed to reflect off the back of the housing, they (by definition) do not "disperse" well.

well actually THIS is the "euro look" (if you want to be technical)
LOL

I'm not sure what to call your look, but I'm sure other more creative members members could help me think of some colorful descriptions

OH Way to go

I did a post I my Hella Euro Conversion headlights last year and everyone thought I was some idiot from idiotsville. I wouldnt give up my Hellas for any headlight because I dont think there is anything that comes close. I used mounting pans and beauty rings from 1985 Toyota Supra. Between the OEM mounting pans for the car mounting part and the Supra mounting pans for the headlight mounting part, welded em up and wa-la. Superior low beam performance and w/100 watt high beams you get 5400ft of beam. No contest.

I like what youve done there, mine are clear but same still.

Yellow looks like ****, and those lenses don't fit. Should have just tinted your stock bulb housings yellow. Still a bad idea though you should never put form over function when it comes to headlights. EVER.

KD93R1

You wouldnt give them up because of looks or performance? If you're talking about performance yes, there are lights available that are much better (see above photo). Any true HID projector will give you SIGNIFICANTLY better beam width, dispersion, even lighting, amount of light, and will not blind other drivers, while at the same time taking nearly HALF the heat and half the current.

Seriously though... I spent 3 years in England/Europe and I never came across a single car with yellow headlights, I'm not sure where you got the idea that your look is "euro"

if your going the "euro" look you did it wrong the yellow are suppose to be in the fogs and hids in the headlights.

you could of made your life easier by just using a low k hid bulb.

Correct and even though they're factory on some cars yellow fog lights actually do not work ANY better in fog then a higher K bulb.

so..... you can see the GROUND directly in front of you. nice work.

what a waste of time/money. Theres a reason those lights are 16 dollars a set and the h4 HID's are $50... cause they dont work. If you want a civic, buy a civic. I have a mag light that puts out as much light as this, and with a wider beam. Welcome to Europe. Would you like a baguette and a striped shirt with your tour of the Eiffel tower. After that how about some bangers and mash with a pint of guiness and a game of cricket. For dinner maybe some escargot, a canal ride, and a tour of the louvre. Unfortunately stereotypes don't typically represent reality, and neither do these "euro lights"
