xm radio installation pics
I just installed an alpine XMradio tuner and a terk sr2 antenna in my FD. I didn't want to put the antenna on the roof since it would attract unwanted attention. A lot of people I talked to said that the rear window would block reception if I placed it inside the car, but that is not the case at all. After playing around with different positions and testing reception, I decided to place it on top of the left rear strut tower. I placed the tuner under the passenger seat. I recently drove my car from boston to dallas and only lost signal for a few seconds two times during the entire trip.
Here are some pics of the installation:

My system:
Alpine CDA7894 CD/MP3 Headunit ($400)
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...p?I=500CDA7894
Alpine TUA-T020XM XM Satellite Radio Tuner ($250)
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...T020XM&o=m&a=0
Terk TRK-SR2 XM Satellite Antenna ($80)
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...0&I=209SR2++++
Total: $730
Cheaper option:
Pioneer GEX-FM903XM ($200)
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...M903XM&o=m&a=0
Terk TRK-SR2 XM Satellite Antenna ($80)
Total: $280
It's expensive, but I love it:
* no commercials
* digital sound
* awesome reception
* all of the newest music and excellent DJs (i listen to house, hip-hop, and reggae)
* displays artist and title for every song, so if you like something, you know what to buy
* same stations no matter where you are
* the list goes on...
I was a little anxious when i bought it because it was so much money and I was worried that i would get bored of it. But, four months later, I am still loving it and my cd burning (of songs from cds that i own ) has drastically decreased.
Anyway, i'll stop with the sales pitch.
Now I just have to figure out what to do with that extra DIN slot below the alpine headunit. I wish I had the ***** to do some surgery on the fc commander and put the LCD display and controls in there.

I guess it's worth it if you spend a lot of time on the road. The subscription cost bothers me. I got enuf of bills... $20 a month here and there really adds up to a few hundred bucks for cable TV, phone, cell phone, tivo, xm, etc...

my buddy installed in in his T-bird SC. They couldn't pull up the weather stripping around the window for the install, so they just mounted in in his rear window shelf. It works just fine.. and is a great service IMO
