is the window antennae any good?

Mike, are you talking about the mini antenna that gets mounted against the windshield from inside the car? It's a little black tube? If so, it SUX. I have it, and it's supposedly amplified too. You actually just can't beat stock.
A friend of mine w/ a 350z got one of those flexibile mini rubber antennas, and he told me his reception sux too. At least my antenna doesn't cause air resistance...lol

No, I am talking about the antennae that is mounted in the windshield itself. looks like a defroster wire. runs all around the window and comes down thru the middle

You'd think that the window mounted one would work better. My GXL just has a little **** in the back for an antennae. Looks stock too. You could always make a y-splitter too. Just get the connectors, cable, and go nuts with it.

The window antenna is pretty useless, mostly because the cable uses a non-standard connector. The antenna itself is shielded by the body and rear window heater, so that also cuts down on the signal to be found. It's for "diversity" use - realize that in a city FM will reflect off buildings (mountains in the country) and the reflected signal will travel a different distance than the direct signal. They will cancel and add as you move along. By using two antennas the diversity receiver will compensate for the loss of signal as the distance variation will be different at each antenna. The diversity receiver has two "front ends" that are combined in such a way that the strongest signal is what is used - in other words to work you need a true diversity receiver to use both antennas. Just joining the two together when you put in an aftermarket receiver will not work. You will drastically change the antenna's characteristics and thus the signal you will see from it.
The OEM (Bose) receiver operates off the power antenna most of the time - the rear window antenna just "fills in" when the signal gets degraded at the main antenna.
Oh, and no, I haven't found a connector for the smaller rear window antenna. I made an adaper for the power antenna, using two male antenna plugs and a short length of antenna cable. I'm sure you can buy them as well.

OK. I dont know what you are tlaking about with a rear window antenae but I am jsut going to replace the crappy rear fender antena and get aother rear fender antenae. no use in buying cables and making adapters if the signal will be no better.
I just thought since it is there I might be able to use it. it looks more stealthy than a black rubber antenae in the back.
oh well
