will 6.5" speakers fit ?

i'm getting MB quarts (RSC 216) and i just wanted to make sure they would fit in the fronts. MB Quarts official website had the vehicle guide and these speakers were on the list. however, i've been reading that 6.5 might be too big and some people use 5.25 or 5.5.

are the speakers too big or no?

I have a set of the MB Quart "Q" series 6.5" in my 93 fd and they do fit with a little but of modification. The power window track needs to be adjusted out about a 1/4 " or so and the stock speaker bracket needs to cut to fit the larger speaker. Other than that there is not much else to do.

I forgot about the tweeter. I cut a hole in the door panel and flush mounted it.

well i'm gonna pay a shop to install them because i want a clean job done, especially with tweeters. i guess telling them to cut the speaker bracket wouldn't be a problem, but what exactly should i tell them about the power window track ?

when they go to install the speakers they should be able to figure it out, it is not rocket science. It was about two years ago when I did mine. I forgot excatly what I used I think it was was a few washers that I used just to make enough space for it to fit. And the window works fine I have had no problems

If they are good installers then it will be a piece of cake. I love my MB Quarts they sound great. are to running a sub woofer? I have the eclipse 10" aluminum dvc and it works great and I still have trunk space.

well i only want front speakers installed for now since i think the highs (treble) for the stock speakers aren't satisfactory. eventually i'll be installing a new alpine deck, sub and amp, not sure what rear speakers yet because i have a bose system.

anyone know any good 5 channel amps that'll fit in one of the rear compartments? i don't need one with massive amounts of wattage, just an amp that'll have enough power for nice full sound.

I used a three channel amp :one for the sub and the other two for the doors and I didn't hook up my rears. the imaging from the door speakers was great and the cockpit is so small that rear fill wasn't needed all I have in the back is the Sub and it sounds great.
Where in Cal are you at? if you are in San Diego then you can see my car at Autotech motorsports. Jeff is working on it.

I'd love to see it but I'm in San Francisco. Quite a drive away.
I was also considering just doing the 3 channel amp, sub, and fronts. I have a 94 touring so i'm curious if the rears still work with the rest of the system ?

If you leave your rear speakers hooked up to your headunit then it'll continue to work. It'll be better sound image if you just have a nice, clean, powerful set of speakers/components in the fronts. Since our cars are so small it doesn't take that much power for good sound.

Kris,

I had Diamond 6.5" separates installed in my car by City Car Stereo on Pacifc & Van Ness. They installed my amp, front speakers and JL 10" Sub. The installed had to do some minor modifications to get the speakers to fit in the door panel. The 6.5" mid range and Crossover doesn't just "bolt-in". He also moounted the tweeter up high on the door panel.(This is a must! the tweeters sounded shitty when they were mounted low behind the OEM grill next to the mid range)

Hope this helps.

John

i used 6.5 coax JL Audio VR's in the doors. Mounting depth 2.48" I did have to grind the inside of the orig speaker frame to get them to fit, but they sound awesome. Too much bass in them causes a decent amt of door rattle & resounance tough. Will likely crossover around 100hz and get a sub to remidy it.

a sound deadner will also help with the noise in the doors. like dynamat or something like that.

I took out the whole bose system completely and replaced it.

Make sure you get a true 3 channel amp, and not a 4/3/2 or anything like that. I currently run an eclipse 4/3/2 in 3 channel mode and it bridges the back channel for the subwoofer, so it gets twice as much power as the door speakers. Its ok for radio, but most DVD, CD, MP3 rips and real clean inputs the bass becomes overpowering. I have to keep adjust the bass level with different sources via the headunit. I am in the process of finding a nice mono subwoofer amp, so I can switch my current amp to two channel, give double the power to the doors (200w@2ohm) The door speakers are 3ohm so ~150wx2) and drive the sub with a 250w@2ohm Amp to keep up (125w@4ohm). I imagine that will be more than enough power for the little car. Id like a mono amp with a remote level/gain ****, so that I could adjust it dynamically at the cockpit, and not the head unit, or have to do the mad reach around to get to the amp, in case the same discrepancies happen with clean signals vs off air.
