Question What do you think of flat paint?

I'm in the process of painting the 7 and making this go away:

I've gotten to the black primer stage:

It's still wet from the quick wash.

Well, I think I kinda like it with the flat black look. Definitely considering just dropping a few more coats of flat black on and waxing the hell out of it.

If anyone else has gone flat and has pics, post them up.

yellow is a color that sould have never been allowed on an FC and the black car was painted by a moron who needs to be introduced to a wonderful profuct known as masking tape.

I wouldn't be docking his masking tape skills considering I see overspray on the tailights, ftps, license plate etc.

Flat black looks like primer black, dull.

Personally I would shoot for a metallic or at least a gloss black. And taking parts off and painting them will go a long way! If the yellow paint was done right (doorjams, engine bay, nooks and crannies, etc.) then you're going to have a lot of yellow peeking out at you.

Wax is for clearcoat. I wouldn't throw on a few basecoats and "wax the hell out of it." What kind of paint are you using out of curiousity?

**** guys, you ever hear of a project car. Wasn't worried about overspray cause I'm swapping out all the dull plastic for the nice and shiny ones out of my donor car, and that is primer. I just wondered if anyone had gone with the flat look. This is a work in progress. The final plan is gloss black with light metal flake.

What he should be using is 2Nd Dimension 5.0 Acrylic Enamel gloss black. Very forgiving paint for a rookey if he paints himself. Flat colors look so trailer trash.

wow..... even though you can get paint off that stuff pretty easy, i would have masked it.... saves you time in the long run..... looks like a lazy man paint job..... the ftp's and the turn signals are one thing.... but the taillights... come on!!! MASK IT NEXT TIME!!!!

Guys, why do you primer your car and then leave it for long periods of time? I cant even stand the idea of driving with it on my car or risking getting it wet! Ive had several bodyshop owners including my uncle tell me primer is a pourose paint that basicly wicks up water. If you have bare metal, its going to rust and show itself years later. You should always paint over primer and seal it.

For the overspray, flat blade razor or a FINE rubbing compound, even paint thinner.

There's a difference between satin and primer, and both have a propper method of application that makes them last throguh any weather AND protect the metal.

Any paint you use, when applied incorrectly, will cause more damage than good.

note: that a flat black is way less reflective with radar and laser.

I thought about doing this just because i want stealth but with stealth comes issues of other drivers not seeing me and then the chance of an accident increases

I saw some paint once that was flat black in color and had crushed quartz in it. Worked kinna like the paint on the stealth fighter...but not quite...lol.

But yeah...I'll be going for the stealth fighter look.

The flat black 7 could look a LOT better...maybe a for more coats, and some sanding...personally I think gloss black would be better IMO

Yeah, I agree. I've seen too many primered cars that were completely rusted over. That's why mine is staying in the garage until the clearcoat goes on. You can still do flat colors of course with single stage paint, just don't use primer for a topcoat.

Not true. This has been tested and proven to be false. Nothing can be done to your car, and keep it able to be driven on the road, to hide it from radar.

Was even featured in last week's episode of Mythbusters .

dont mean to knock you man, but that all a big myth that was proved busted, flat black will not prevent cops radar in clocking your speed...

I still think that the entire car in flat black makes it look like a poor white trash beater. At least clean it up and paint with even coats, damn.

Not always true, like if you have really shitty paint. I bought a beater 500 dollar 91 escort a couple years ago that had awful condition maroon paint, looked really bad, bunch of scratches, not good at all. I wasn't about to waste money on painting that car so I just painted it flat black. Looked MUCH better and I was actually able to sell the thing for a grand.
