Where to find a 3rd gen. red-stitched shift ****?

Hey all, I inquired with FDNewbie and he said it's very hard to come by and if-even, it would be extremely expensive. As you know, stock shifters are all black. Recommended I have it customly-done. Not sure where locally get that done. So do any of you know where to get a red-stitched **** like this one in the photo below? The one in photo is JDM OEM...I'm cool with an aftermarket too but the main thing it that it hopefully looks like an OEM shape/size. Momo doesn't make any.

I searched on google for "red stitch shift ****".

I think this is your best bet for a GOOD red stitched shift ****. Maybe it'll look better with a taller red stitched shift boot?

took about 1-2 hrs, but thats not including the times i messed up ( i failed twice so 5hrs +), if i had to do it again might just take 1 hr...
Use this kind of thread

Makes threading the needle SO MUCH easier
First off i snipped the thread off the old shift ****, made a template off that... if it's a bit small thats okay, its better if it's a bit too small and stretch the leather when you tighten the stitch.
Next you have put holes in the leather b4 you start stitching, i used a wire and marked in increments of 5mm or so... then i curled the wire around the template and used that as my spacing and from the edge of the templete went in like 3mm. Pierced holes though the leather with my sewing needle (make sure the needle is thick as the thread) Do this for both pieces. (I ended up with 46 holes on both, very important that you have the same amount of holes on both pieces)

The string i used was 1m long, i tied one end and started at my first hole....

went to the other side but skipped one hole (marked in blue) then went to the other side (marked in red) *Note* do one needle/thread till u get around the curved part of the templete
Do the same zig-zaging style with the second needle...

Sorry if my grammer or english is bad...

Some tips that might help speed up the process:
1. Have some small pilers to help grip the needle, else your hands will get sore
2. By pre-piercing the leather it makes the snitching part a lot easier
3. Take your time
4. If you notice there is a wire that is attached to the thread... thus making it a hell a lot easier to tread it to a needle, just twist it around the eye of the needle.
5. Align the needle, thread with the wire as straight as you can when u pull it through, else the needle might bent and if u do pull it straight it goes though like butta
6. Get needles/thread from a hobby shop, leather... from an upholsty place maybe? Just need 1x1 ft
One thing is i dunno how to but the 1,2,3 etc onto the ****... might use a Letter punches and brand the ****.... anyone have any suggestions?

Hope this helps
Robb

Hi Robb! Man...I greatly, greatly appreciate the diagram of your work - I will have to print out the steps and try at it. Very nice, man. This should be a sticky or something.

For the shift numbers...I'm cool without, hehe. The end-product is simply amazing!

I might be able to find the exact strings for you. My mother work for a jewelery company and i've seen her use those silk strings quite often. I can send you them for free! I'll let ya know.

Reviving this post from the grave. Heh.

Does anyone know if STi/WRX ***** fit on FDs? I have been trying to find stock-like shifters for the FD that have red-stitching. I saw this OEM STi **** on eBay and looks almost identical to the FD's Spirit R red-stitch shift *****. I already checked w/ FDNewbie but it would be hard-to-find and even then, costly for a real OEM shifter. I'm just looking for similar alternatives...

Just thought I'd mention that...

1) I can readily get the OEM Spirit R shift *****, stitched in red. And if cost is an issue, I can always run a group buy on 'em If interested, feel free to start a thread in my subforum and gather interest!

2) I'm actually running a group buy on the illuminated 5-speed RX-8 shift ***** right now! Check it out: https://www.rx7club.com/fdnewbie-imports-172/gb-interest-illuminated-not-rx8-5-speed-shift-knobs-662885/

Thanks!
