What are some good headunits out their?
I am looking at the Pioneer 7400 I am not getting it just for the pretty display. It has some good features probably enough for what I need I just want a good headunit with CD player and the 7400 had MP3 player. Those are the reasons I like it. Any opinions or other headunits you guys like better in the 250-350 dollar price range?

I may be wasting your time here, 'cause I dunno what pricing looks like. I haven't looked in awhile.
Great decks and manufacturers that I love the sound of include...
Eclipse (models below CD5441)
Nakamichi
Clarion
Alpine/Pioneer
In that order IMO. There are obviously many more out there. I chose Eclipse in the end, narrowly over the Nak. This is for my other car. I'll probably go Nak in the RX, just 'cause it matches better.

I know I'm a newbie, but I do know my audio. The price range you listed could net you a used Pioneer Premier P1R. It's one of the better SQ decks on the market, and for the money is very tough to beat. The previously listed are all fantastic decks, and you'd be happy with any of them, but as I said the Pio is a tough one to beat for the money. SoundDomain or EliteCarAudio should have one or two up for sale in their classifieds. If you have any more questions about audio, feel free to drop me a PM, then I can pester you with RX-7 questions in return, LOL, as I am new to this genre.

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
For head units, I am partial to the Japanese Alpine stuff (not the cheap built in China or Mexico or USA stuff) or the Eclipse.
From there its pretty much a toss up with Sony/Kenmore-whoops I mean Kenwood/Pioneer/High end Panasonic/clarion.
I can't recommend Nak, because although it sounds wonderful it has not been reliable for me.
And I find the pioneer premier/clarion/kenwood decks to be very hard to figure out how to do some of the basic functions without reading the manuals. In my book, if I can't just jump in and get tunes there is some thing wrong with the design.

Well if you have an FD try the Alpine CDA-7894 it plays MP3 has subwoofer output, ect, ect.. basically for $350- 400 bucks you get what you pay for. Sounds great in IMO.
The best part about it is that it has as AMBER function that closely enough matches the interior of the FD and it dosen't have those anoying displays that most headunits seem to have today.

If you want MP3..
I had the JVC SH99 and it was nice. I didnt like the shiny aluminum face, but otherwise it was a good deck.
It got stolen (shiny face = attracts theifs). I now have the Kenwood x659, and I like it better. Nice looking face, big display, 4.5watt preouts. And its excelon .. mmm..
it was $300 on yahoo shopping
