What is recommended for an alarm?
I am thinking about getting an alarm for the FD. I have heard all the horror stories around town about the rare cars getting stolen and I would like something else to help deter thieves. Yes, I know that nothing is guaranteed to stop them, but things might help to deter them. The car is parked in a locked garage.
This is what I am looking at:

I know DEI products rule the industry, but I think they are a bit overrated. This looks like a good product and gets decent reviews. I am also considering getting door lock actuators installed. I know its a PITA, but it will be worth it.
I also am considering buying the GPS unit for it. I am unsure if it has a Turbo timer, but that would be a nice feature. I do like that feature of the DEI products.
What do you guys think?

the one I have on mine is a clifford. I am not sure if the company even exists anymore i bought it about 6 yrs ago from Tweeter and it has a remote door locks kit with it, and a remote start. The remote start does double as a turbo timer it will stay running for 10 min and then shut off or you can manually shut it off with the remote at anytime. It was expensive almost $700 but worth it in my opinion. The last time I did go there they did have newer versions but i think it would at least be a place to consider looking into.

i have a new viper alarm. it works really well. i got it with remote start even though i dont really use it. but what i like about it is that it has a proximity sensor on a swith. so if i have to leave my car outside for a night i can turn the sensor on. so if someone comes with in a couple of feet of my car it starts beeping. and my key chain also goes off and lets me know what is going on.

The ONLY alarm system to buy is a "Truck Monkey" alarm.
Google Trunk Monkey and check out the video of the alarm in action.

but yea clifford is great, two way pager, most options are internal (no relays) and actuators are not that hard to put in, just have to make sure the window doesn't hit them mainly and that they can freely move the lock bars.. took me like 4 to 6 hrs start to finish, thats everything, i installed door lock actuators the alarm with a ton of features like dome light supervision, valet switch blah blah blah ya know the whole deal... by myself in a parking lot with just a pr of wire cutters and some tape.. not hard at all
