What dyes yo use when redoing 3rd gen interior?
I said I would never do it but I am gonna eat my words and go for it.
I just gotta have a better looking interior. I hate the tan.
I need to know which dye to get and where to get it.
I looked around all the local auto suppy stores with no luck. Can someone point me in the right direction for the dye?

I did my entire interior from tan to yellow/black through a friend who works at a body shop near montgomery mall in bethesda. See for your self.(My cars currently at PFS, or you can ask Ryan about my interior) and PM me if you wanna do it through my friend. My friend said something about deeping the parts into special dye paint jar and leave it in for about 6-8 hrs then wet sand and dye again for 4hrs(I think)

Is yours the Yellow car?
I was there today.
I've seen your car there a few times.
Your getting a single or something right?
I saw that your yellow panels looked really good.
Can you just find out what dye they use and let me know?
I have this thing about doing all my own stuff.

He mentioned it. Hey he also mentioned that you are getting rid of that TT gas cap. Wanna sell it to me?
I'll take it.

Yeah but not right now. I am going to sell the hood, c-west aero kit, and rims all together sometime this summer when my new bodykit arrives. I will sell the audi TT cap to you then. As far as dying your interior, I just IMed him and he said the materior he used was not being sold to the public.(WTF?) but here's what you can do with Vinyl Spray. Repeat the procedure more then once. Hope this helps!!! :-)
Painting Interior Panels
Sometimes you will need to reuse plastic parts from donor cars. You will most likely want to repaint them to match the rest of your interior.
Preparation
Make sure to clean all of your parts first using 'Simple Green' (found everywhere, including Wal-Mart). If you want to do a thorough job (especially if ArmorAll was used on the parts) clean all of the parts using acetone or paint thinner. Rinse everything thoroughly with water and then dry them off using a lint-free towel.
Painting
When using aerosol paints, spray the part in thin coats and allow enough time for the coats to dry between paintings.
Specific Paints
Rustoleum Vinyl Paint can usually find an aerosol can of this at your local home improvement store (Home Depot, Lowes). Do not use this to paint rubber or anything that is flexible, or it will crack and flake off. You can also contact an upholstery shop to do the paint for you. They use professional-grade paints that do not fade or chip.
Carpets
You can buy couple of cans of carpet shampoo and thoroughly clean your carpet. Allow enough time for the carpet to dry, and then dye it using spray-on carpet paint (found in auto stores). Personally, I would rather buy new carpet (same goes for seatbelts) since the dye may bleed or fade over time. I also have experienced some commercial carpet dyes (for household use) rubbing off onto clothes or even your skin.
Vinyl/Leather Upholstery
Many builders outsource their upholstery work. Keep the following in mind if you would like to do this yourself.
Material
Leather is quite expensive and you may not want to 'experiment' with it your first time. There are many other options that may be just as effective (if you buy good quality), such as vinyl and pleather. The best quality material may be found at professional upholstery shops, but you may also find something at the traditional sewing and crafts stores. Marine supply stores are also a good source; boat builders need parts too! Vinyl can come in at least = three types: standard, two-way stretch, and four-way (harder to find) stretch. Before you buy, test out a small piece of the material by scratching it with a fingernail. Don't buy anything that is too thin or scratches easily.
Techniques
It is important to keep the material tight and stretched; heating it using a hair drier (heat gun works best) makes it more pliable and easier to stretch. Spraying the piece with a 3M adhesive and then wrap the material around it using hot glue, staples, or other fasteners where you can't see them. Upholstery shops also sell brush-on contact adhesive. If stretching doesn't work for the part, you may need to sew it. Cut the material at the corner (or seam) of the part and then sew it into a '3D' shape.

Yea, I was guessing that was you. It was this post in Gordon's thread that did it for me:

The only thing I've seen people painting car vinyl interiors (not just RX-7 folks) with is the stuff that Zerobanger used, Dupi-Color Vinyl Paint. I've seen many places online that sell it, however I don't know about you, but I can't bring myself to order cans of paint online. Unfortunately, I have no idea what stores would carry something like that.

Anyway, a year later my interior has shown no sign of fade or bubble. I used the Duplicolor brand, gloss black. I chose gloss black and I like it.
Rustoleom has a new product out too. Just make sure you use it in temps that are above 65-70 degrees or it will turn white!!!!
You can get it at pep-boys or Kragen.
EDIT: I assure you that it will *NOT* come off the vinyle. I will peel off the plastic pieces ( kick panels, ECU cover) You can paint *ANY* kind of paint on the plastic pieces will come off. The vinyle paint is flexible, so it doesn't come off the panels.
Good luck.

Me and my big mouth. LOL
The white your talking about is called Blushing. It's commonly known to anyone who works with finishes like I do. It's caused by air bubbles in the finish. Also what kind of prep work did you do? Sanding with 320 or 400 and then just cleaning them well with some denatured alchohol?
Jspecracer 7 is hooking me up with the cloth seat skins, visors, and the light control. Now I just need the head liner for a touring and the new carpet.

Then I shook the can real good and held it about 10 inches from the source (open the window, place a cloth over the outside paint on the door so it doesnt overspray , cover the seats with somthing) Then put light coats of paint, wait for it to dry (about 2-3 minutes) and then do it again. I put about 3-4 coats. REMEMBER my car is a 94, so everything was black except seats and carpet. So I painted my door panels/dash to give them more life. I got new seat covers from leatherseats.com.
You dont need to sand your door panels. This stuff really sticks to it. I warn you not to over spray or make runs, take your time with it.

I didn't even know your name was David. I was refering to FD3Boost, but I guess it includes you too then.
I'm looking for the actual complete seats though (minus the brackets). My covers are worn, but some of the material in the seat itself is damaged. If you don't have this, thanks anyway.

if you find something can you post it? I dont think its possible to dye vinyle. Dye has to soak into a fabric or something like that. Since Vinyle is waterproof, I dont know how you could do anything other than paint it. Please let me know I'd love to dye some of the plastic pieces. Thanks.

What is the status on this thread? Does anyone know of a name for a vinyl dye? I want to do this too, but don't want to spend the time doing it if it is going to scratch or rub off on my clothing or something. Is it honestly better to just buy all the parts rather than trying to dye/paint everything?
