What to do about stock "amp" and 4" dash, ect ect
Im pretty new to this forum as I just recently purchases an 88 GTU and am loving it. What the hell should i do about the stock amp(s)? anyone know the stats (wattage, distortion, ect.) of the stock amps? i was thinking, if they are worth a damn, they would be ok for pushing some mid grade 4" components or coax or something in the front (i dont have any door speakers, yes, im pissed). Im thinking about haveing a 5.25" kick panel install to make up for the lack of door speakers. I was going to use some JL audio 6.5" components in the back, or some coax, not sure yet, and put a false floor in with two 10's. any suggestions to all this?

I only have the technical specs on the amps in the FDs and not on any other gen
Have you tried to find a watt meter? I'm almost sure Radio Shack has one or something similiar which would allow you to measure ohms and exact wattage coming out of the amps. It might even be possible to measure the volts coming out of the amps, but I wouldn't know how to convert it to watts or if converting it numerically would even be possible.

i don't know the specs, but i do know the stock system is crap.
i would suggest pulling the stock amps and speakers and going with 5.25" in kick panels or even 6.5"s in the door. i find putting speakers in the back useless unless it's a sub. for me anyway, sound should come from in front of you, not behind. lol, who stands with their back to the band during a concert?

The stock amps put out about 20-25 watts peak power per channel. That’s about 15 watts RMS on average.
They are fine for talk radio, but not quite up to modern standards.
Kick panels would require some custom f'glass work, and there is very little advantage to doing that approach unless you want to compete with a top line world-class system. The lower dash locations can be used for a decent 4" or 4.5" speaker as well (but I wouldn't recommend placing tweeters in there, its tough to get them aligned well.)
The 88 FCs like yours have provisions in the front door metal for up to 6" speakers.
