I guess all I can hope is that the shop just double back taped them and didn't permanently glue them on like I've seen suggested here when searching

Anybody have ideas? I pulled the screws off and looked underneath as best I could and the shop that installed them glued them on with sme sort of thick black glue or caulk. it's hard and rubbery, not soft and gooey like the stuff they use to seal tail lights.

If I use some fishing line and cut through it I'm sure it'll come off, but will that crap come off the paint?

It wont **** the paint. Use the fishing line and move your way through it till the skirt comes off. and WD40 or anyform of adhesive removing spray should get it off with gentle rubbing and patience. if it wont damage paint on my bedroom wall i wouldnt worry about clear coat.

Rubbing alcohol works great for removing adhesives and adhesive tapes. You can also pick up a plastic scraper or use an old credit card or fake (plastic) card that they send in the junk mail.

if they used a black adhesive, it's very unlikely that you'll be able to get it off the paint of your car without damage. Easiest way to remove it is the heat it up with a heat gun and pull the skirts off the car. After that, I'd take it to a body shop to have them remove the adhesive, and probably respray that area of the car
