What aftermarket speakers are you using for the FD?

One of my MB Quarts "Q Series" mid-range speaker has failed. At this point I don't know if it may be the speaker or the cross over.

Originally I wanted to use Polk Audio 5 years ago for the door speakers since I like the way they sound for the $$$$.

However, their magnets are too deep for the stock non-Bose mounting brackets.

I looked at Polks's site and their top of the line 5.25" satellite speakers are just a little over 2.5" for the mounting depth. Has anyone used these or similar depth speakers with reasonable success?

http://www.polkaudio.com/car/product.php?name=mmc5250

Or will I have to consider MB Quart's QSD 213 (forged alluminum, wet powder coated titanium) $1200/pair satellite speakers for the stock mounting location?

http://www.mbquart.com/2003/en_US/pr...&model=QSD+213

The key for me is to use stock location with no visible mods to the grill.

Also, what are you using for the rear 5x7? I'm using Polk Audio.

At this point I am open to ideas for other brands that have good fit and superior sound and construction to the QSD 213.

I dont think that you can do more than 2.5" in the doors without blocking the windows... I am using Ifinity Kappas and they sound great... same goes with the rear 5x7 (I am using 6x8s but they fit in the same brackets)... I definetly reccomend Infinty, they sound amaing in the FD, but my Phoenix Gold's sound amazing in my truck, it really depends on what your shooting for... My Infinity's are 2 3/8", and I did not use the stock brackets, I made some custom ones with some MDF board... good luck with the sysem though.

I just used the auto equalizer/ "surround sound" adjustment feature on my Pioneer Double-DIN with a microphone and it did a superb job of compensating for the blown speaker.

Now I can't even tell if it's blown.

And the sound has had some major improvement in depth and accuracy.

I have Alpine type-X crossovers and tweeters, the woofers did not fit in the door, than I have eclipse two ways in the door, and two diamond m6 12" subs in the back in a custom enclosure in my fd. The system sounds amazing, I want to put some 6X9 rear coaxials in the little cubbys above the storage bins....

Last week I installed 6.5 inch Memphis component speakers in the door placement but I have not mounted the tweeters as of this time .I used 6x9 Memphis speakers in the back side placement with the the small crossover tucked in the recess above the speaker .The two eight inch subs in the rear are Memphis with the black chrome cone and basket to match the Memphis bell amp .The head unit is an Eclipse AVN2454 .

I just got off the phone with Polk Audio and they said that they will release $700 speakers that will compete with the MB Quarts QSD, Dynaudio's and other high end speakers.

He said around June will be the release date.

And they will be more shallow than the current offering which might fit in the front door panels.

I just spoke to these guys and they said that the speakers are going to be in stores later next month.

They are made by some European company, I think it was a Danish company that starts with a V.

MSRP $700~

hmm, i just got my rainbow pro components in about a month ago. They sound AMAZING, although they were $600 imported from germany. The tweeters are not as harsh as the mb quarts, check out speedsound.com if your interested in non-mainstream audiophile brands.

Infinity kappa at all 4 corners and infinity basslink in the back to balance everything up. It sounds absolutely amazing in the fd. I love my setup. I modified the stock bose speaker boxes from the doors to fit the infinity kappas and i made custom brackets for infinity kappa speakers for the rear speaker location and covered it with speaker mesh to blend into the black interior. It looks like it came from the factory like that. The infinity basslink adds the perfect blend of bass to the system. Every song i play on my system sounds amazing.

I am running Polk/Momo components and they are great. My best friend bought two sets for each of his cars after hearing the setup I had.

Got some Rainbow Soundlines 6.5" comps. Sound is so crisp. Currently 70 watts running to them but they want more! Just got another amp, 75x4 rms 4 ohms - will be giving each woofer and each tweeter 75 watts. Should be interesting....
