It was one of those type deals where i got a big discount on it so pretty much there was no taking it back. so i had to stick with it.

Maybe their hoods are a different story, i dont mean to give their company a bad name.

all fiberglass need some "working", this including copies and original pieces. you can't just slap it on and expect it to fit near perfect. i dont understand why you get the whole car painted, without a bumper. then buy a bumper, have it sprayed separately from the car, and then expect it to fit. ... just my .02

if you look closely the vents on the Seibon hood are to flat ... they are not as angled as the other scoot hood....kind of weird...does anyone see what I am talking about?

I know what you mean (but I don't think it looks weird). Since my last post on this thread I purchased a seibon hood. The vents aren't as agressive as other manufacture's. But I actually kinda like that.

for 2 reasons:
1)The scoot hood is pretty agressive so the seibon one is a toned version of one which is great for a street car
2) my mods aren't visible since the vents are smaller. always a plus

Though the vents are smaller it still does a good job in reducing heat in the engine bay. When I picked up my hood it was during a hot day. My water temps reached 101 deg C with the AC on. Installed the hood drove back and the highest temp was 96 deg C.

I'm happy

From my wholesale aero part sources around here in CA, Seibon and VIS already shook hands under the table, so the higher end CF products of VIS are most likely the same as the Seibon products you guys buy. It's like those gas stations you see facing eachother - a 76 and a Mobil for example. In the end it's just a price game.

like the difference in vent angles between the siebon and vis, one being at a more aggressive angle... is there a difference in angles with the ks style hood made by the two manufactures...anyone know?

Huh? it vents in just like the Vis (the vent is just smaller on the seibon). Due to the screen and how the pic was taken you can't see inside the engine bay. I have one and it vent's in just fine. I actually like the fact that the seibon comes with a screen. From a slight distance the it deters from looking straight into my engine bay (as my polished peices and the screen become one from a far). My point is actually proven because you thought that it does not vent in. With the Vis this is not the case

now Vs Seibon:

not so obvious

The true functional scoot hood had the front duct straight to the brakes (if I remember correctly). So actually these hoods aren't as functional as the original. Now unless you track your car it really does not matter. One this is for sure the front vent does allow more cold air into the engine bay, which is a good thing.

yes that's why I said this:

Then your local guy either got a factory REJECT or got ripped off as it is not a true seibon hood. Like I said earlier I have a seibon hood and the vent opens into the engine bay just like the Vis. I know it's a real seibon hood because not only does it have a plaque but I confirmed my order with the seibon myself.

The real Scoot hood doesn't openly vent the NACA duct. It is tunnel routed to both the ABS MBC (to cool off the brake system). I like the less radical Seibon version over the VIS replica.

* * It may be cheaper for me to replace my OEM hatch with a carbon fiber one rather then have the holes welded/filled in and having it painted. I installed my 99 wing but the R2 holes did not line up, so I have a bunch of holes that need filling. I got some extremely comical quotes from some schiester body shops. So I am debating replacing it with a carbon hatch but I will retain the glass and add the wing.

Any fitment problems, if so what brand?
Any quality problems (clear coat fade, cracking, etc), if so what brand?
Any problems retaining the OEM glass (was told it wouldnt hold with silicone)?
Any problems installing rear wiper, wiper motor, sprayer and plastics?

From my searches, I found one person with fitment problems from the group buy hatch but no one else posted on fitement afterwards. One person had a problem with VIS but about three other people said it was excellent. Have not found anything on Seibon hatch.

vis = low quality seibon = show quality another thing about people who complain about thier products not fitting you get what you pay for plain and simple.

I have owned both and the seibon hood is by far a better product the gaps are half as wide as the vis and the hood fits the car like a factory hood. IF YOU BUY THE VIS HOOD OVER THE SEIBON HOOD YOUR DUMB.

What's your take on this, guys? A couple of the other places that I have looked list the seibon hood for $700 or more. This and one other place had them for around this price. I doubt this comes with the rain tray, but beyond that any comments?

I know I'm bumping a really old thread but I found this while checking my back links and I just wanted to say that I'm the owner of illstreet and carbonfiberhoods.net and I've been a member here for YEARS. So I don't know if that speaks toward my credibility or not but I thought it was worth mention.

i've owned 3 VIS hoods for this FD and other cars i had. all fits great and very sturdy for CF hood. non of them require hood pins for these daily drivers. But i do agree, i've seen some VIS horror stories... just never my own..

seems like there's quite a bit of good reviews of seibon in this thread. but from what i've seen.. i don't like how they flatten the original designs on their replicas and make the hood thinner..

I've seen a ton of carbon fiber hoods and I just can not get with the seibon styling. It's way too "edgey" in the sense that the lines are sharper and flatter. The ViS hoods tend to have a smoother bubble shape to them. Also, if a customer of mine has a hood with a defect or flaw in it that gets past the inspection process we typically pay shipping both ways to quickly replace it. ViS has been great about that with us.
