vintage audio

I am looking for a head unit for my FB. Now the modern units do not look right in an early 80's dash and I would like to keep the vintage look to my car. What were some higher end brands that were popular in the Regan years?

Anyone know of an early/mid eighties cassette with line in and an amber lighting displaying a respectable brand? Added bonus for shaft type *****.

BTW, I plan on modern speakers in stock locations unless otherwise advised.

Thank You

I don't want new. I want vintage equipment. Not a old kraco or radioshack, but names and makes of 80's high end audio.

Nakamichi.

Even some of the newer ones look like they're out of the 80'S. Orange illumination (do the FBs have orange illumination?

yes, that is it. I already found the Nakamichi td-1200. But I will look into McIntosh also.

I understand that Nak isnt the brand it once was. I also perfer the tape deck to cd, Seems more period correct.

my 81 and former 83 had a orange/amber glow to the dash. not sure about other years.

and jshiz, I am looking for a single DIN, or better yet a shaft mount.

that sounds kinda sexy...

The S4 GXL radio/cassette deck was made by Clarion. Try searching for their older models.

How about this: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_068RETR...wAll=Y&tp=5684

No CD player tho but it has a USB connector to play music from your USB drive or ipod.

I'll try to find a example of it but it is kind of like the S1 radio, the two prong style, and is narrower and shallower than a standard din. as for the retro one on crutchfield it is a lot more than I'm am looking to spend

Was the best image i could find sense the car is at work. Not the exact radio but it appears to be about the same width so my main question I guess would be should I mount it in the stock radio location, or the where the tape deck is.

PA Double DIN Radio

The GSl and GSL-SE had the Premium double DIN radio stack (Digital Tuner, Auto-reverse Cassette Deck and Equalizer) with a silver finish made by Clarion. To my eye the later radio in the 86 and on is the same size but in black finish. 84' - '85 had orange illumination on Cassette and EQ. My tuner doesn't currently work but I seem to recall the station numbers being red.
